He was the first actor ever to play the role of Marvel Comics' character Spider-Man, which he did in the 1967 Animated series.

Has twice shared the screen with Edward Norton: first in The Score (2001) and next in The Incredible Hulk (2008). The latter appearance bore some irony as Soles has been long-credited as the first actor to portray Bruce Banner.

In a December 2014 interview at Toronto Comic Con, he refuted the long-held belief that he was the first actor to portray Bruce Banner. Despite being credited as portraying Banner for "The Marvel Super Heroes" (1966) and Hulk (1966), he stated the credit was incorrect (though he did not specify who the actual actor was).

Lives in a retirement complex in Toronto with fellow Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer cast member Billie Mae Richards. (November 2004)
