Stephen Sondheim has almost never been more popular than in the two years since his passing in November 2021. In that time, celebrated revivals of “Company,” “Into the Woods,” and “Sweeney Todd” have come to Broadway, and successful remounting of “Assassins” and “Merrily We Roll Along” have played Off-Broadway, which is a testament to the enduring appeal of his works.
This fall will once again spotlight Sondheim. The tremendously successful Off-Broadway run of “Merrily” starring Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez, and Daniel Radcliffe opens on Broadway on October 10, which will mark the first remounting since its original, unsuccessful run in 1981. In addition, his final musical “Here We Are,” which is based on two Luis Buñuel films—“The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie” and “The Exterminating Angel”—will have its highly-anticipated world premiere Off-Broadway, opening on October 22.
In honor of another “season of Sondheim,” take a look back at every single Tony...

Hulu’s acclaimed “Only Murders in the Building,” currently vying for 11 Emmys, has gone all razzle dazzle in its third season. Make that rattle dazzle! Beleaguered Broadway director Oliver (Martin Short) was hoping for a comeback on the Great White Way with the mystery thriller “Death Rattle.” But when his leading man (Paul Rudd) is murdered, he decides to turn the straight play into a musical, “Death Rattle Dazzle!” And in the third episode, Meryl Streep’s nervous journeyman actress and Ashley Park’s leading lady performed the show-stopping ballad “Look for the Light” co-written by Sara Bareilles. One almost forgot the prime suspects in “Death Rattle Dazzle!” are the infant Pickwick triplets.
The 1959 multiple Tony winner “Redhead” also has a rather strange plot for a musical: a serial killer is stalking women in London in the 1880s during the time Jack the Ripper was terrorizing the city. Sounds like a real toe-tapper.

A new episode of The Manson Brothers Show, the video series hosted by the writers/stars of the horror comedy The Manson Brothers Midnight Zombie Massacre – Chris Margetis (Stone Manson) and Mike Carey (Skull Manson) – has just been released, and in this one the Boys are revisiting the 1987 horror classic Hellraiser (watch it Here). To find out what they had to say about it, check out the video embedded above!
Written and directed by Clive Barker (based on his own novella The Hellbound Heart), Hellraiser has the following synopsis: Sexual deviant Frank inadvertently opens a portal to hell when he tinkers with a box he bought while abroad. The act unleashes gruesome beings called Cenobites, who tear Frank’s body apart. When Frank’s brother and his wife, Julia, move into Frank’s old house, they accidentally bring what is left of Frank back to life. Frank then convinces Julia,...

This post contains minor spoilers for the new "Hellraiser."
David Bruckner's new film "Hellraiser," the eleventh film in the series, is a proper reboot. It takes iconography and certain key elements of Clive Barker's 1987 original, and flips them into something new but recognizable. The film still centers on a mysterious puzzle box -- the Lament Configuration -- that, when solved, summons Cenobites, a nasty cadre of sadomasochists from beyond the grave. The function of the box, however, is now more similar to what one might have seen in the 1987 TV series "Friday the 13th: The Series." In this version, the box can also grant wishes, but only in exchange for a blood sacrifice.
Some of the similarities that Bruckner's new film has to previous installments in the "Hallraiser" film series are, of course, evident. Most notably, the signature monster is still the Lead Cenobite -- nicknamed "Pinhead...

If filmmaking is a puzzle, casting is a corner piece that, when chosen correctly, helps hold everything together. I recently told you about Coil’s Hellraiser soundtrack that almost was, but what about the cast? Clive Barker captured lightning in a bottle with his 1987 directorial debut, but here are some casting choices that could have impacted Hellraiser significantly.
Doug Bradley as Mover
Barker has known Doug Bradley since high school, so he allowed him his choice between two roles in Hellraiser: the Lead Cenobite or one of the mattress movers. As this was his first film, Bradley nearly chose to play the mover, because he thought it was important for the audience to see his face.
Thankfully, Bradley decided on the Lead Cenobite, and the rest is history. He became a horror icon, reprising the role in the next seven sequels, while Dave Atkins and Oliver Parker (who went on...

He taught you to tie your shoes and ride a bike, and now he’s chasing you around the house with an axe.
Such is fatherhood.
In celebration of Father’s Day, we have gathered our top ten favorite horror movies dads. Without further adieu-
10- Vincent Cassel as Joseph in Sheitan (2006)
While at the Club Styxx on Christmas Eve, a group of kids run into a shepherd named Joseph and his pregnant wife. But something is peculiar about this sinister dad-to-be and it isn’t just the sting of symbolism slapping you in the face.
9- Jim Siedow as the Old Man in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
This twisted gourmet father is a well simmered blend of Emeril Lagasse and Jeffery Dahmer, with a dash of that redneck “squeal like a pig guy” from Deliverance. Bake at 350 and lets put an apple in that pretty mouth of yours.
