After its Season 2 renewal in February 2023, Rian Johnson’s and Natasha Lyonne’s Poker Face the case-of-the-week mystery series is back in production for its next installment.

Season 1 of the Peacock show featured 10 episodes of Lyonne’s Charlie Cale, a Vegas casino worker whose keen sense of honesty leads to a Columbo-style show and reverse detective format. Johnson, who also has Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery in the works with a stacked cast, describes the show as a “howcatchem” versus a “whodunit” which is the format of the Knives Outand Glass Onion films.

Skylar Astin is adorable, and Marcia Gay Harden is brilliant, and together, on So Help Me Todd Season 1, those two became an unbeatable duo.

From the outset, the show seemed to be, intentionally, a bit of a parody of itself. Part comedy, part procedural, and part slapstick.

Even the title is a bit tongue-in-cheek, and if you watched the promos for So Help Me Todd Season 2, it's evident that the writers relish the wordplay.

Throughout the first season and so far in the second, physical comedy is a staple: Margaret falls in the water when she visits Gus on his houseboat, Lawrence accidentally ingests psychedelic mushrooms in Episode 12, and Todd bears the physical effects of getting injected for a study. 

The show is intentionally light-hearted and never takes itself too seriously, even when dealing with potentially serious consequences, as was felt on So Help Me Todd Season 1 Episode 18 when a bomber threatened the firm.

Exclusive: Peacock has an ace up its sleeve with Rian Johnson‘s Poker Face.

The series jumped to No. 2 on Nielsen’s U.S. streaming originals list for the week of January 30 to February 5 with 641M minutes viewed. That’s up from the 547M viewing minutes it managed in its first week on Peacock, with its four-episode debut.

The No. 1 spot on the streaming originals list once again went to Ginny & Georgia, though it’s worth nothing that the Netflix series had 20 available episodes to help bolster its 900M viewing minutes for the week.

In terms of average audience, Poker Face takes the top spot since the series only had five episodes available at the time.

Poker Face, which hails from MRC and T-Street and stars Natasha Lyonne, scored an early Season 2 renewal in February. New episodes of Season 1 are currently debuting every Thursday through March 9. This week’s episode is directed by Johnson.

No lie, “Poker Face” will enter the Emmy awards race as a comedy. For Rian Johnson, “Poker Face” — his upcoming Peacock series with Natasha Lyonne — is a love letter to the shows he grew up watching, like “Rockford Files,” “Columbo” and “Quantum Leap,” he told journalists at NBC’s Winter Press Tour for the Television Critics Association.

The highly anticipated Peacock show marks the Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director’s debut as TV creator and stars Natasha Lyonne. Up until now, not much has been known about what to expect beyond Johnson teasing the series as a character driven, case-of-the-week mystery.

The mystery-of-the-week series stars “Russian Doll” Emmy nominee Natasha Lyonne as Charlie Cale, a private investigator in the vein of James Garner in “The Rockford Files.” With a powerful ability to determine when someone is lying, no matter how airtight their alibi is, Charlie travels across America in her yellow ‘69 Plymouth Barracuda, stumbling upon bizarre crimes to solve along the way.

Natasha Lyonne is on the case in Peacock‘s upcoming series Poker Face, which is set to debut in January, the streamer announced Wednesday.

Along with the release date, Peacock also released the first teaser for the series from Knives Out and The Last Jedi helmer Rian Johnson. Throughout the 10-episode series, Lyonne’s Charlie shows off her uncanny ability to determine when someone is lying by using it to solve crimes.
