Last week, it was announced that Foe, a sci-fi thriller starring Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), Paul Mescal (Normal People), and Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad), is set to receive a theatrical release on October 6th. Now, with that date just over a month away, a trailer for Foe has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Vanity Fair has unveiled the first batch of images from the upcoming sci-fi thriller Foe – and while doing so, also revealed that the film is set to receive a theatrical release on October 6th! The Power of the Dog’s Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smit-McPhee earned their first Oscar nominations on Tuesday for their turns in the Jane Campion film, speaking with Deadline about its stellar reception and upcoming projects including the action epic Civil War, which the former is starring in for Alex Garland, and the Untitled Elvis Presley Project from Baz Luhrmann in which the latter shot a role.

While Dunst wouldn’t disclose specifics as to the story of Civil War, she shared that the film will enter production in Atlanta in March. And while Smit-McPhee admits he only has “a small part” in Luhrmann’s Elvis film, he said he took away from it the same “reward of being challenged” that he’d found on The Power of the Dog.

On Tuesday, The Power of the Dog‘s Ari Wegner became the second woman ever to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography.

Wegner’s recognition comes on the heels of Rachel Morrison’s nom back in 2018 for her work on Dee Rees’ historical Netflix drama Mudbound, which did not result in a win.

Amazon Studios has officially started production on “Foe,” a sci-fi thriller package it acquired out of the Cannes Film Festival.

Led by Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal and Aaron Pierre, the story comes from director and co-writer Garth Davis. Davis and Iain Reid adapt the latter’s best-selling 2018 novel. Shooting is underway in Victoria, Australia.

Set in the near future when corporate power and environmental decay are ravaging the planet, “Foe” tells the story of Hen and Junior, a young married couple living a solitary life on their isolated farm. One night, a knock on the door from a stranger named Terrance changes everything: Junior has been randomly selected to travel to a large, experimental space station orbiting Earth.

Producers include Kerry Kohansky-Roberts on behalf of AC Studios, Davis for I Am That and Emile Sherman and Iain Canning for See-Saw Films. Executive producers include Reid and I Am That’s Samantha Lang.

The Underground Railroad and Old actor Pierre is on a roll having recently been set for the Lion King prequel and as the lead role in Netflix’s Rebel Ridge in place of John Boyega who exited the movie this summer during production. That project is due to get back up underway in spring next year.

Screen Australia says it has not mismanaged its finances by spending its annual production funding in just six months - a state of affairs which it says reflects the strength of the local film industry.

The government screen agency revealed in mid-December 2012 that it had spent its entire annual $42 million drama production allocation due to the unprecedented number of quality feature film and television projects seeking support. The shock announcement was reminiscent of the agency's abrupt decision to cut its investment cap in 2009 while several films were mid-financed.
