This new story tells how Mufasa became the Lion King. Many have had some issues with the trailers indicating that Mufasa was an orphan, when in “The Lion King,” that did not seem to be the case. However, they might explain it in the movie.

After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered, eventually becoming the most-watched original series ever on the streamer ever with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things‘ Season 4, Dahmer and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.

Season 1 ending up scoring 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming just the third Latina to ever be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

In the process, they have also confirmed that the new batch of episodes will premiere sometime in 2025. Thursday’s sneak peek features stars Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán; director Tim Burton; and co-creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, as well as various looks at the new episodes’ sets and extras.

There was a time where the best sci-fi shows on TV weren't on Apple TV+, but on HBO, and a big part of this was due to "Westworld." Disney revealed an extended look at the upcoming release “Mufasa: The Lion King” on Friday night at D23.

Before that, singers walked onto the stage and teased a snippet of the film’s opening song before director Barry Jenkins appeared. “Like all of you, ‘The Lion King’ made an indelible mark on me,” Jenkins said. “Hearing the music and feeling every emotion as the story unfolded, a father bestowing a legacy upon his son, a pride being built anew, and a young lion rising to his destiny. Telling his story is an absolute honor.”

Jenkins also announced that Lin-Manuel Miranda will pen the film’s original songs. Miranda received a standing ovation as he joined Jenkins to preview the song, “I Always Wanted a Brother.”

A trailer that debuted Friday during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 showcases a different, more innocent side of the young “brotherhood” that Mufasa and Scar develop before their relationship is ultimately fractured.

Audiences at D23 were also treated to a scene from the film that even featured a new song, penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The song, titled “I Always Wanted A Brother,” appears in a scene where Mufasa and Scar are young cubs. They quickly become friends and, eventually, more like siblings as the song progresses and they grow into young adults.

Jenna Ortega is reflecting on her infamous 2023 comments about pushing back on initial scripts for hit Netflix series “Wednesday.”

Prior to the Writers Guild of America strike, Ortega told Dax Shepard during his “Armchair Expert” podcast that she had to “put my foot down” and “started changing lines” that she disagreed with on set.

“Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all,” Ortega said at the time.

Of course, backlash ensued, from writers in the industry who, pre-strike, already felt disempowered.
