Very active in both Italian and French cinema, usually in character roles or villain parts. He was discovered for the screen in 1946 by director Alberto Lattuada, who gave him his first role in The Bandit (1946). Held degrees in law and philosophy.

Brother of actor Piero Lulli.

Fought with anti-fascist partisans during World War II.
