Sex Education‘s Aimee Lou Wood’s BBC romantic comedy series Film Club has built out cast.

She is penning Film Club with Ralph Davis (House of the Dragon), who is also starring in the show, and added to the cast are Suranne Jones and Nabhaan Rizwan, whose Netflix drama Kaos was recently cancelled. Adam Long and Liv Hill are also starring.

Film Club has commenced filming in Manchester and will air next year on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three and later on ZDFneo in Germany. Gaumont UK is producing, with Fremantle handling international sales. Show was first announced back in February.

Plot follows Evie (Wood), who hasn’t left her home in six months after a ‘wobble’. She runs a film club in her garage as an escape with her best friend Noa (Rizwan) and whoever else turns up.

The BBC on Tuesday unveiled casting additions for its upcoming romantic comedy-drama series Film Club, including Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack, Vigil) and Nabhaan Rizwan (Kaos, In Camera, 1917).

The screenwriting debut from actors Aimee Lou Wood (Daddy Issues, Sex Education, White Lotus season 3) and Ralph Davis (House of the Dragon season 2, Othello) is described as a “piercingly funny and utterly heart-warming” six-part series by Gaumont for BBC iPlayer and BBC Three. Fremantle is handling global sales.

“Film Club Week 198. Evie hasn’t left the house in six months after a ‘wobble’, and Film Club is her escape,” reads a synopsis. “A weekly chance to create a world of wonder, deck the garage out in whatever the movie calls for and spend a few uninterrupted hours with Noa – her best friend and one of the few mates who still shows up.

But tonight, things are different. Noa’s got big news.

“Kaos” star Nabhaan Rizwan has set his next project following the cancellation of the Greek mythology-inspired Netflix series.

He has joined the cast of upcoming BBC rom-com drama “Film Club” alongside “Doctor Foster” lead Suranne Jones. The show follows members of a film club as they find solace in their shared passion of cinema every week until one day some big news shakes things up.

“Sex Education” star Aimee Lou Wood was previously announced as the series lead Evie, who is recovering from a low period with the help of the club. Wood co-wrote the series alongside Ralph Davis (“House of the Dragon”), who will also appear in the show as Film Club newcomer Dominic. Gaumont UK Lands Latest Channel 5 Thriller

Locked In producer Gaumont UK is making The Wives for Paramount UK network Channel 5, a six-part mystery drama about the unravelling of a family. The Wives follows four sisters-in-law and their families who escape to their Maltese holiday apartments, as they’ve done every summer for 15 years, but things go awry. Cast will be revealed shortly and show is filming in Malta early next year, airing later in 2024. Gaumont UK is producing in association with Banijay Rights, which is selling around the world. Run by Alison Jackson, Gaumont UK has already produced For Her Sins for Channel 5 along with Netflix double Locked In and Obsession. “The Wives is set to bring layers of mystery and intrigue which is guaranteed to keep the Channel 5 audience guessing,” said Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer for Paramount UK.

Gaumont UK Options Tm Logan’s ‘The Mother’

Gaumont UK has picked up rights to Tm Logan’s The Mother and will develop the thriller as a returning drama series. Released earlier this year, The Mother starts from the shadows, as a woman attends her own funeral after serving 10 years in jail for the murder of her husband. With two grieving sons in mourning, it’s evident she will stop at nothing to clear her name and reconnect with her children. Gaumont UK President Alison Jackson said she was “instantly fascinated” by the story, calling it a “tantalising addictive read with a brilliantly complex female protagonist.” Gaumont also has rights to Sixteen Horses, Dog Rose Dirt, and Dressed For War: The Story of Audrey Withers. It was most recently behind Netflix thriller Obsession starring Richard Armitage with Moonage Pictures along with Channel 5 thriller For Her Sins. The UK hub opened five years ago.

Famke Janssen (X-Men) and Rose Williams (The Power) have the lead roles in the “contemporary psychological thriller” Locked In, which is currently filming in the UK. Produced by Nicky Bentham of Neon Films, with Alison Jackson of Gaumont serving as executive producer, the film is being made for release through the Netflix streaming service.

Locked In marks the feature directorial debut of Nour Wazzi, who has previously directed multiple short films and episodes of TV shows, and also contributed to the horror anthology movie Murder Manual. Netflix UK executives Anne Mensah, Fiona Lamptey and Kate Townsend discussed the studio’s upcoming slate in London on Thursday (March 17), as the company launched new erotic thriller series Damage.

Richard Armitage is set to star in “Damage,” a new Netflix series from Gaumont U.K. and Moonage.

Armitage (“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”) will play William, a politician who embarks on a passionate affair with his soon-to-be daughter in law, Anna (played by “Peaky Blinders” star Charlie Murphy.)

Anna is already engaged to William’s son Martyn, played by “Miss Marvel’s” Rish Shah. She fights to keep both relationships alive – one with Martyn and one with William – but it is inevitable that the truth will emerge and someone is going to get hurt.

In the meantime, William finds himself drawn into an obsessive spiral, unbeknown to his wife Ingrid (played by “Obi Wan Kenobi’s” Indira Varma.)

Pippa Bennett-Warner (“Gangs of London”) is also set to join the cast as Peggy.

Sky Original Comedy ‘Bloods’ Second Season

The second season of Sky Original comedy Bloods is underway. The news comes as a deal with Hulu is announced for the first and second season in the U.S. with the first season airing stateside on December 9. The deal was secured by Roughcut TV (Stath Lets Flats) in association with Sky Studios. The new 10-episode season will be shot at North London Studios and in various locations in South London. The story follows characters within the paramedic service. Cast includes Samson Kayo (Truthseekers) and Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous). Debbie Pisani (Flack) is on board as producer with NBCUniversal Global handling distribution.

Gaumont UK Acquires Rights To Crime Thriller Novel ‘Dog Rose Dirt’

Gaumont UK has secured rights to adapt Jen Williams’ psychological thriller novel Dog Rose Dirt into a drama series. Gaumont UK’s Alison Jackson (Ashes to Ashes) is aboard as exec producer.

Interactive game series “Isklander” is set for an on-screen adaptation.

Gaumont U.K. has optioned the film and TV rights to the alternate reality trilogy from London-based immersive entertainment company Swamp Motel.

The three-part interactive game series — which comprises “Plymouth Point,” “The Mermaid’s Tongue” and “The Kindling Hour” — invites players to unleash their inner online detective as they enter a world of corporate deceit, occult horrors and shadowy cabals to uncover the murky underworld within high society.

Players can book a time to play each live episode, which is accessible via home computers, and can be played by 2-6 people. Teammates need to collaborate as they look for clues and crack codes and passwords to piece the story together.

ITV has commissioned West Road Pictures to produce “Ridley,” a new detective drama starring “Line of Duty” and “Blood” star Adrian Dunbar. The series is created and written by “Vera” lead writer Paul Matthew Thompson and West Road Pictures managing director Jonathan Fisher. They will executive produce the series.

“I couldn’t be happier to be getting started on ‘Ridley,’ as we continue to build the West Road production slate with our second commission for ITV,” said Fisher of the announcement. “ITV has a fine tradition of nurturing much-loved detective series, and it’s a real privilege to be bringing ‘Ridley’ to the channel.”

“Ridley” follows a detective inspector pushed into retirement from the force after 25 years investigating homicides. Convinced he is still in his prime, Ridley welcomes an invitation from his replacement and former protégé Carol Farman to aid her on a particularly complex case, eventually leading to more consulting jobs.

Gaumont U.K. has swooped on rights for Greg Buchanan’s debut literary thriller “Sixteen Horses” after a bidding war, and will develop the novel as a drama series.

The studio pursued the book for two years after being snared by the first chapter in 2018. “Sixteen Horses” is published by Mantle Books/Pan Macmillan and set for release in the U.K. on April 29 and July 20 in the U.S. via Flatiron Books. It is already generating buzz, having been picked as one of the literary titles to be covered in BBC Two’s next series of “Between The Covers.”

Exclusive: Gaumont, the French production company behind Netflix shows Narcos and F Is For Family, is in the early stages of adapting Gaston Leroux’s iconic novel The Phantom Of The Opera into a six-part TV miniseries.

The project is being led out of Gaumont’s UK unit, which is working with writer Anthony Horowitz to reimagine Leroux’s gothic story about a disfigured composer, who lives in the depths of the Paris Opera House and falls for singer Christine Daae with tragic consequences.

Deadline understands that the 1910 novel, rather than Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash-hit musical, will form the backbone of Horowitz’s adaptation, in much the same way that Andrew Davies relied on Victor Hugo’s book to bring Les Misérables to the screen for the BBC and PBS in 2018.

Gaumont UK has optioned historian Julie Summers’ biography on wartime Vogue editor Audrey Withers, titled Dressed For War: The Story of Audrey Withers, Vogue Editor Extraordinaire From The Blitz To The Swinging Sixties.

The British offshoot of Narcos producer Gaumont will work with Vogue on the adaptation, which is set in 1940s London and follows Withers as she aimed to transform an upper-class fashion journal into an essential lifeline for women of all backgrounds.

Gaumont says its ambition is to create a “sweepingly cinematic” story about female intellect and how Withers helped pave the way for the sexual revolution of the 1960s.

Gaumont U.K. — the British operation of the French studio behind “Narcos” and “Arsène Lupin” — has optioned a new biography of wartime Vogue editor Audrey Withers.

The project, entitled “Dressed For War: The Story of Audrey Withers, Vogue Editor Extraordinaire From the Blitz to the Swinging Sixties,” is based on a biography by researcher and historian Julie Summers, published by Simon & Schuster U.K. in February, with support from Vogue.

The title is envisioned by Gaumont as a multi-part returning drama series. The producer is in early discussions on casting and a female writer for the project who will work closely with author Summers.

The Tim Roth U.K. drama “Tin Star” has been picked up for a third and final season, Sky Atlantic announced on Wednesday.

Starring Roth, Genevieve O’Reilly and Abigail Lawrie, the series centers on a former Metropolitan Police detective who becomes chief of police in the Canadian Rockies. The six-episode final outing will see the character returning to the U.K. to confront his family’s menacing past.

The episodes will go into production later this year to air on Sky in the U.K. and on Amazon in other territories.

Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks are set to return for a second season of Sky’s original crime drama “Tin Star,” the satcaster has confirmed. After Season 7 consistently won its time slot this year on ITV, the network has ordered an eighth season of Law & Order: UK. Shooting starts next month on the British version of the franchise for broadcast in 2014. Bradley Walsh, Georgia Taylor, Paterson Joseph and Dominic Rowan are returning with newcomer Ben Bailey Smith (Derek) joining the force. The new season will be produced by Jane Dauncey. Alison Jackson and Jane Featherstone will executive produce for Kudos Film and Television. The scripts are written by Nick Hicks Beach, Tom Grieves, Richard Stokes, Matt Evans, Jamie Crichton, Louise Ironside and Noel Farragher. Mat King, Joss Agnew and Jill Robertson will direct. Averaging 5.4M viewers, Season 7 maintained a 21.3% share. Previous seasons have aired in the U.S. on BBC America.

Cinemax has announced that production is underway on 'Nemesis,' its new drama series set in the world of international espionage. Created and written by Frank Spotnitz ('The X Files,' 'Strike Back'), 'Nemesis' stars Melissa George ('In Treatment,' 'Home and Away'), Adam Rayner ('HawthoRNe'), Stephen Dillane ('Game of Thrones'), Morven Christie ('The Young Victoria') and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ('Lost').

The eight-part series is is produced by Kudos Film & Television ('Mi-5,' 'Life on Mars') for BBC One and HBO/Cinemax in association with Big Light Productions. It will shoot in Scotland, London and Morocco, and is slated to air on Cinemax in 2012.

Spotnitz will executive-produce along with Alison Jackson, Jane Featherstone and Stephen Garrett from Kudos Film & Television and Christopher Aird from the BBC.

Conceived in the agency's Hong Kong office, in conjunction with Chinese music magazine re:spect, the Let the Music Live On Campaign takes the original music piracy slogan--Home Taping is Killing Music--literally, by assassinating the artists.

The app promises you free downloads of a variety of artists, from Madonna, White Stripes, and Amy Winehouse, to Blur, Gorillaz, and Kraftwerk. Click on them, and your cursor turns into a gunsight. Click again, and bang goes the pop diva, via a selection of gory methods.

Although the lookalikes aren't, say, up to the caliber of those of artist Alison Jackson, who cares? Meg and Jack are peppered with grenades, the four Blur boys are picked off by a sniper, and Kraftwerk are reduced to nothing more than a pile of hardware rubble.
