The Hollywood Reporter has reported that a new film in the 1999 comedy franchise, American Pie, is now in the works over at Universal. The original film has already spawned three theatrical sequels with the original continuity as well as five direct-to-video spin-offs, which would include one released as recently as 2020. American Pie is a raunchy sex comedy about four high school friends entering a pact in their pursuit to lose their virginity before prom night.
The new film in the works will be coming from a concept pitched by Sujata Day, who is known for her role in the HBO raunchy comedy, Insecure, and as a writer and director of the film, Definition Please. There is currently nothing known about the plot of her concept, but her pitch has been described as “a fresh take.” Day will be writing the script, although it has not been announced if she will...

Florida Girls and Flack will not air their second seasons on Pop TV after all.
Variety is reporting that Pop has canceled both series ahead of their second seasons.
Every episode of Flack Season 2 is already in the can, and it was set to debut later this month.
Florida Girls was renewed back in October 2019, and according to social media posts from the cast, it was in pre-production on its second season.
Also not going ahead is Best Intentions, a coming-of-age comey from American Pie's Adam Herz.
The cancellation of these three shows leaves One Day at a Time and the soon-to-conclude Schitt's Creek as the network's sole scripted series.
The decision certainly came out of the left field, but there is hope for the canceled series.

Pop TV is ending three of its series, including two that were previously renewed for additional seasons.
The ViacomCBS network decided not to move forward with the second seasons of “Flack” and “Florida Girls,” (both had been picked up for sophomore runs within the last few months), and is scuttling plans for “Best Intentions,” which was picked up to series last summer.
“Flack” was renewed for season 2 last August and had even set a premiere date for March 13. “Florida Girls” was picked up for a second season last October. All three series came from outside studios and will be free to shop their series elsewhere.

Four years ago, the TV Guide Channel, a co-venture of CBS and Lionsgate, relaunched as Pop with a slate of unscripted series and a scripted comedy, Schitt’s Creek, which has become the basic cable network’s signature series. It’s that time of year again: The season when fans flock to their beloved stadium bleachers for hot dogs, beer and, of course, the boys of summer. Players are not only returning to the field, but also making their way back to the big screen — only, not in the traditional way.
A feature adaptation of Sullivan’s Sluggers is in the works, and while the plot revolves around the supernatural, it’s a far cry from Field of Dreams. The 200-page horror baseball graphic novel, by Andrew Smith and James Stokoe, follows a minor league manager named Casey Sullivan and his rag-tag team, The Sluggers, as they fight for their lives in a town overrun with “shape-shifting monsters.”
Interesting details on the work were already spilled by producers Todd Garner of Broken Road Productions and Adam Herz & Joshua Shader of Terra Firma Films – they consider it an homage to...

Growing up a Mets fan, I learned quickly that even the sport of baseball could be riddled with stomach churning horrors. However, things are about to get taken to the extreme with the latest graphic novel adaptation that's on its way!
THR reports that Broken Road Production’s Todd Garner has teamed up with Adam Herz and Joshua Shader of Terra Firma Films to produce an adaptation of Sullivan’s Sluggers, a horror baseball graphic novel by Mark Andrew Smith and James Stokoe. Tom and Tim Mullen have been tapped to write the script.
Described by Smith as "Major League meets Zombieland and then some,” Sluggers follows has-been baseball manager Casey Sullivan and his dysfunctional minor league Sluggers, who get an invitation to play a small venue game. Soon enough they find themselves fighting for their lives against a town of shape-shifting monsters on a feeding frenzy, and the has-beens...

There's a very cool sounding horror concept being adapted from a graphic novel to the big screen! It's a horror story that centers on baseball, and it's called Sullivan's Sluggers.
The comic was created by Mark Andrew Smith and James Stokoe who describes the story as "Major League meets Zombieland and then some.” The story follows a has-been baseball manager named Casey Sullivan and his dysfunctional minor league Sluggers who get an invitation to play a small venue game. Soon enough, they find themselves fighting for their lives against a town of shape-shifting monsters on a feeding frenzy and the has-beens and wannabes must use long-forgotten skills of teamwork to get out alive.
The 200-page graphic novel is being sold by the creators through the popular online fundraising company Kickstarter.com. They ended up raising six times their pledge goal in the first five days, which is a pretty impressive feat.

Starting in 1999, when four friends (Jim, Kevin, Finch and Oz) decide to do all they can to lose their virginity by the time they graduate high school, then moving forward a year for a sequel built around them meeting up after a year at college and spending the summer at a lake/beach house, before wrapping up the trilogy with the build-up to and events at Jim’s marriage to Michelle, the American Pie films very much focus on Jim (Jason Biggs)’s sexual misadventures, but with the gross-out elements undercut by an overall sweetness and at the series’ best moments, a welcome and necessary lightness of touch.
Since the franchise kicked off, plenty of other films have entered this sort of arena and with mixed success. After the first three theatrical releases, the franchise drifted into straight-to-dvd / spin-off territory, with terrifyingly bad results. With the gang back for (presumably...

Jim, Stifler and Finch are reliving the rude old days in American Reunion – what will you ask them in our Q&A?
"Sometimes in order to move forward, you've got to go back," said the voiceover on the trailer for American Pie 2, the sequel to the Weitz brothers' Porky's pilfering grossout comedy smash. Eleven years, one sequel and four spin-offs later, high school friends Jim, Kev, Finch, Oz and Stifler have taken the advice to heart and are returning to the table for one last slice.
American Pie: Reunion, the final American Pie film, sees all of the original gang regroup in suburban Michigan for a school reunion. On Monday, we'll be celebrating the franchise's finale by filming a video Q&A with cast members Jason Biggs (Jim), Thomas Ian Nicholas (Kev), Tara Reid (Vickie), Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler's Mom) and Eddie Kaye Thomas (Finch).

"American Wedding" was billed as "the thrilling climax" of the "American Pie" franchise back in 2003. But as every fan knows, a handful of "American Pie Presents" direct-to-dvd movies followed, and this weekend, the original cast returns to theaters in the appropriately titled "American Reunion." So what gives?
When MTV News posed this question, Eddie Kaye Thomas (better known to fans of the beloved comedy franchise as Finch) was quick with a killer response. "Jay-z retired; he's back. Why don't you ask him that question?" he said with a wide smile, to much laughter from co-star Seann William Scott.

Ron checks out American Pie: The Reunion, and finds the series in better shape than you might think...
It's been a long time since Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) first got to know one another in American Pie, and it's been even longer since they had sex, or so it seems. The fire is going out of their marriage, but Jim has a great plan for reviving things with his wife: attend their high school reunion. Never mind the fact that the class of 1999's reunion is about three years too late, these days you're lucky to have a class reunion at all!
So Jim and Michelle head back to Great Falls, Michigan, where Jim reunited with his old friends Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and Oz (Chris Klein). The four make plans to hang out, but when their frenemy Stifler (Seann William Scott) crashes the party,...

The teen movies of the 1980s helped to define that decade and made stars of many of the young actors of the day but when John Hughes ran out of ideas and Molly Ringwald’s phone stopped ringing it spelt the end of an era for the genre. During the nineties, the teen movie lay dormant with occasional successes hidden in the guise of other genres such as horror (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer) and literary adaptations (Romeo And Juliet, Clueless loosely based on Jane Austin’s Emma). However in 1999 all that changed, thanks largely to American Pie, which makes its HD debut on Blu-ray along with its two sequels in a trilogy box-set this week.

Exclusive: UTA today sued screenwriter-producer client Adam Herz and his Los Angeles loanout company Atursis Entertainment in La Superior Court for failing to pay the agency its 10% American Pie 4 commission from the scribe's deal with Universal Pictures. According to the complaint filed by Bryan Freedman of Freedman & Taitelman, "UTA represented Adam Herz as a writer and producer for more than nine years, during which time, UTA negotiated a lucrative deal for Herz for American Pie 3 that provided him with millions of dollars as well as a right of first negotiation on any subsequent sequels and remakes with a guaranteed compensation package. When the studio decided to make American Pie 4 without Herz, Herz received a generous compensation package as a result of the right of the first negotiation UTA obtained for him. Herz received millions of dollars even though Herz was not required to do any work on American Pie 4.

Yesterday The Hollywood Reporter announced that three of the stars of the original films Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott and Eugene Levy have all completed deals to star in American Reunion. They’re also in talks with original cast members Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Coolidge to reprise their roles too.
The script for American Reunion, the fourth film in the American Pie franchises (almost the direct-to-video sequels), will come from Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg who previously teamed on Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. The combo will also direct this flick.
Chris Moore and Craig Perry will produce. Adam Herz, who penned the originals, and Paul and Chris Weitz, who directed the first flick, are executive producing.
The Hollywood Reporter story doesn’t get into much more detail, and it doesn’t mention the fact that Seann William Scott just checked himself into a rehab.

There had been rumors about another American Pie movie being in the works, and that seems to be holding true. Universal was able to strike a deal with Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott and Eugene Levy to reprise their roles in the fourth installment in the very popular teen comedy franchise. Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle) are writing and directing the film with Chris Moore and Craig Perry producing and Adam Herz and Paul & Chris Weitz executive producing.
While Biggs, Scott and Levy are the only ones attached to reprise their roles, there are plenty of other familiar faces currently in negotiations for a come back. Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Coolidge are also in talks with Universal. But what about Alyson Hannigan and Shannen Elizabeth? Find out after the jump.

In 1985 actor turned director Rob Reiner chose to make his second feature film (after the “mockumentary” This Is Spinal Tap) a more conventional narrative comedy. Specifically the teen sex comedy, but with a twist. He would combine this with a “love on the open road” theme ala It Happened One Night. This forms the structure of The Sure Thing. ‘ Gib’ (John Cusack) hears from his California based buddy Lance (Anthony Edwards) that his blond neighbor is a “sure thing”.
