Jason Voorhees has become synonymous with his iconic hockey mask, which has kept the "Friday the 13th" franchise in the public consciousness despite Jason having not appeared in an official, franchise capacity since the 2009 remake. It's the result of some legal issues between the franchise and the character's creators, but that dang hockey mask has guaranteed that just like the slasher villain who wears it, Jason Voorhees will never die. Hardcore horror fans know that the hockey mask didn't show up until "Friday the 13th Part III," but even more interesting is how Jason has been presented behind the mask or in a few instances, without it completely.
Jason Voorhees has been through it over the years. He's drowned (more than once), been struck in the head with an axe, impaled through the skull with his own machete, hacked to bits, chained to the bottom of a lake, taken a boat propeller to the throat,...

Like Spirit Halloween seizing a once-beloved store, Silver Scream Con moved into the old stomping grounds of Rock and Shock — New England’s premier horror convention, which came to an end in 2019 — at the Dcu Center in Worcester, Ma for its three-quel on September 13-15.
It was a full circle moment for Silver Scream mastermind and Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas, whose experiences attending Rock and Shock inspired him to start his own convention. Having quickly outgrown its previous venue, the Doubletree hotel in Danvers, Silver Scream Con III’s new setting was able to accommodate even more horror fans for three days of horror, music, gore, and more.
The guest list included: Scream‘s David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, and Lee Waddell; Cabin Fever‘s Eli Roth, Cerina Vincent, and Jordan Ladd; Terrifier‘s Damien Leone, David Howard Thornton, Lauren Lavera, Elliott Fullam, and Amelie McLain; Halloween‘s Nick Castle,...

The mythology for the long-running "Friday the 13th" film series has been notoriously shabby and amorphous. At the end of Sean Cunningham's 1980 original slasher, it was revealed that Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) had witnessed her developmentally disabled son Jason drown in Crystal Lake years earlier, largely thanks to the neglect of the boy's randy, sex-distracted counselors. Pamela set about getting madness-inspired spiritual revenge by murdering any new counselors who deigned to have sex at Camp Crystal Lake. Luckily, Pamela was killed before she could commit any more murders than she already did.
In Steve Miner's "Friday the 13th Part 2," however, it was revealed that Jason (Steve Daskewisz and Warrington Gillette) was still alive, living in the woods for decades, presumably unbeknownst to his mother. But Jason, it is revealed, knew his mother was killing people and witnessed the events of the first "Friday." Why, one will immediately ask,...

After dedicating an entire month to Erotic Thrillers like Bound and Stranger by the Lake, October has been blissfully fun and silly. Last week, we celebrated our 250th (!!!) episode last week with Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. This week we paid homage to Jason Voorhees with a look at one of Friday the 13th title: Part 2!
In the sequel to Sean S. Cunningham‘s game changer, poor Alice (Adrienne King) is brutally killed off immediately. After a five-year-jump, a new group of horny counsellors prepare to open Camp Blood. These red shirts include iconic Final Girl Ginny (Amy Steel), her sad sack boyfriend Paul (John Furey), as well as hot and fit Terry (Kirsten Baker) and pervy Scott (Russell Todd). And then there’s poor sweet Vickie (Lauren-Marie Taylor) and disabled Mark (Tom McBride).

"Pearl" star Mia Goth has some thoughts on why the Academy Awards often fail to recognize standout performances in horror films. "I think that it's very political," she told Jake Hamilton (via Twitter). "I think that it's not entirely based on the quality of a project, per se." Like many horror fans, Goth wants that to change.
Horror fans love the actors who star in such films, often becoming quite devoted to them. It's not just the ones who deserve awards, either. To understand just how important all horror film performances are, one need only take a look at the talent lineup for any given horror convention. Many people are just as happy to meet someone who was killed third in a random "Friday the 13th" sequel as they are to talk to special effects artists and directors.
Sometimes, though, actors in horror films get swapped out for various reasons.

Teddy Told Me To, the directorial debut of effects artist Tom Devlin is based on a character he created for an episode of SyFy’s makeup show Face Off back in 2011. Teddy was designed to be the villain for a slasher film, and now eleven years later, he’s just that.
The film opens with a YouTuber sneaking into an old haunted attraction, “abandoned since all the way back in the 90s!”, only to meet a bloody end. That video is being watched by Danny and Zoe who are meeting a realtor about that very property.
Of course, they buy it and renovate it with visions of making a killing in the spooky season. When their groundskeeper Ron tells them somebody made a...

As if we needed another reason to be excited for "Scream VI." A recently released trailer for the slasher sequel features a Ghostface shrine, a shotgun-wielding killer, and a crowded subway reminiscent of the brilliant opening scene in "Scream 2." Fans also got their first glimpse of returning fan-favorite Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere). The high school horror fan was last seen bleeding from stab wounds administered by the second killer in the criminally underappreciated "Scream 4." Audiences won over by the whip-smart young woman who's not afraid to call out gatekeeping film bros have long held onto the hope that she somehow survived this vicious attack and will someday return to the franchise. It seems we've gotten our wish and news that Kirby lives quickly spread through the horror community. She now joins an elite group of survivors who have faced the infamous Ghostface and lived to tell the tale.

FX Artist Tom Devlin Brings His SyFy ‘Face Off’ Fan Favorite Creation to Life in Feature Horror-Comedy ‘Teddy Told Me To’: "Acclaimed FX artist Tom Devlin has finished production on his feature directorial debut “Teddy Told Me To”, which is currently in post-production.
The horror-comedy – which was directed by Devlin from a screenplay by Vincent Cusimano and Lola Devlin, was filmed on location at his celebrated Boulder City, Nevada roadside attraction Tom Devlin’s Monster Museum. Tom Devlin and Kayla Bushell produced, with special makeup effects by Devlin and Walid Atshe.
Revolving around the plight of a pair of haunters who set out to resurrect a shuttered Halloween haunt with a bloody past, “Teddy Told Me To” brings to the screen one of Devlin’s fan-favorite character makeup creations: the titular slasher “Teddy” (which he originated in 2011 in SyFy’s popular special effects makeup reality series “Face Off”.) Jason Voorhees, the Friday The 13th masked mass murderer who has terrorized horny teenagers at camp sites for generations, has had many faces. This is both a credit to the various makeup artists designing Jason’s gruesome face and the performers wearing those makeups beneath that iconic hockey mask. This Friday the 13th holiday, we rank the latter. The top Jason will be pretty obvious to most Friday fiends… but how does the rest of this list shake out?
We should note that the Friday The 13th franchise also sports three major non-Jason serial killer characters, in the original Friday The 13th, Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning (although Jason does make a tiny cameo in both of these films), and of course Freddy Vs. Jason. These rankings will comprise the actual Jasons only.

Before Jason got his hockey mask in Friday the 13th Part III, he terrified audiences and counselors alike by wearing a sack over his head in Friday the 13th Part II. Steve Dash was one of the actors who played Jason in that first sequel, and his approach to playing the iconic character in some of the movie's most crucial scenes helped cement Part II Jason as one of the most memorable versions of the Crystal Lake killer, and it is with especially great sadness that we share the news of Dash's passing at the age of 74.
Keeping his fans updated on his Facebook page, Dash had recently announced that he was having his left leg amputated to help his fight against diabetes and a heart condition. Today, multiple horror outlets have shared the news of the actor and stunt man's recent passing.

More casting news has come in for the MGM meta redux of The Town that Dreaded Sundown, and we have the skinny on exactly who'll be facing the original Sackhead next. Hint - It's not Steve Dash or Warrington Gillette.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Veronica Cartwright, Gary Cole, and Joshua Leonard (pictured; The Blair Witch Project) have joined the cast of MGM’s The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Cole is a deputy who is doggedly pursuing the killer, and Leonard will play the deputy assigned to protect the previously announced Addison Timlin and her grandmother. Cartwright will play Timlin’s grandmother who is raising her after her parents die in a car accident.
Timlin plays Jami, a girl who survives a copycat massacre at the film’s annual tribute screening and sets out to solve the mystery of who’s recreating the unsolved Sackhead murders, using clues from her own past.

You. Yes, you reading this. You wouldn't be a fan of say, oh, someone by the name of Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees, would you? What's that? Yes? Well, if you're in the La area in May, you Need to be getting yourself to Creation's Weekend of Horrors!

Teenagers looking to have some pre-marital sex, underage drinking and illicit substances are urged to avoid The Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel & Convention Center at all costs this Saturday and Sunday. Those activities are frowned upon by a certain homicidal, hockey mask-wearing zombie. That zombie is in town, because The Hollywood Collectors Show will be holding a "Jasonpalooza" featuring seven Jason Voorhees from the unkillable Friday The 13th franchise.
The gruesome guests include Jason #1, Ari Lehman, Warrington Gillette and Steve Dash ("Baghead Jason"), John Hock, Dick Weiand, Tom Morga, Richard Brooker, Ken Kirzinger, and the great Kane Hodder, among other Friday faces.
To show there's no hard feelings between them and their former stalker, Adrienne King and Darcy DeMoss will also be in attendance. (Darcy is also arguably the most impressive kill in the series, when Jason V. slams her head into a wall, leaving her impression on an Rv in Jason Lives!

It feels so good to be home. Not that La was bad or anything, but I'm glad to be around my local compadres and sleep in my own bed.
From June 5-7, the Fango staff and I took over the Jacob Javits Center on Manhattan's West Side and immersed ourselves in the glory that is the Weekend of Horrors (New York Style!!).
I started off the weekend helping to set up the booth. It's amazing the random things that happen at these conventions. I'm just standing there and who’s behind me, John Russo, writer of Night Of The Living Dead. I have to say, I usually do not get star struck... but I mean its John Russo. I wrote a thesis on Notld. This film is one of my favorites of all time. For me to get a chance to shake Mr. Russo's hand is mind boggling. After getting...

Warrington Gillette was the 2nd man to slip into the iconic role of Jason Voorhees in Friday The 13th Part 2.
His famous window-crashing scene made him a permanent fixture in the slasher world, along with being the "first Jason to kill" on-screen.
Warrington stopped by the Fangoria Entertainment booth for a chat with Tony Flores and Ben Smith, and we've got the video after the jump!

Just in case you missed his contribution to Lost Boys – The Tribe (it was, after all, after the credits), Corey Haim is locked and ready to star in another genre offering, this one for first-time director Travis Bowen.
According to Vindy.com, Haim will appear alongside Friday the 13th alumni Cj Graham, Ari Lehman, Warrington Gillette, and Ron Millkie in The Girl, a slasher flick about vacationing friends stalked by the titular character (Playboy model Lisa Neeld).
"The movie is really like a 'Friday The 13th' movie," says Bowen of the project, "but with the killer being an attractive woman instead of a big guy in a hockey mask. It's her story in the beginning of the movie, and then it becomes about a group of friends on a vacation being stalked and hunted by her. The story ends with a good twist at the end, and the...

During a party thrown in celebration of the latest installment of the famous horror series Friday the 13th, one of the franchise’s original stars was injured and taken to the hospital. Warrington Gillette, who played the original Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Part 2, attended the party in full Jason costume and took the stage as part of a joke to frighten attendees. However, his plan went south when a female partygoer jumped on stage and tried to wrestle an axe he was holding to the ground, reenacting bits from the cult series, which resulted in Gillette cutting open his hand. A source tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, “She [...]...

Truth is certainly stranger than fiction sometimes. According to a story in the New York Post, Warrington Gillette, who played Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Part 2, was injured during an event honoring the new remake.
Per the Post, Gillette got into full costume for the bash - complete with hockey mask and ax - and stepped onto the stage engulfed in smoke blown from dry ice. But he didn't count on the crazed female fan who, witnesses said, 'jumped on stage and tried to grab his ax.' Gillette managed to wrestle it away but sliced his hand badly in the process.
'It was straight out of a horror movie,' one spy added. 'Lingerie-clad models were running and screaming, as a blood-soaked Jason ran off the runway to get to a hospital.'

Friday The 13th Party Turns Bloody
A party to celebrate the launch of new movie Friday The 13th turned into a real life blood bath last week - when one of the franchise's former stars was attacked with an axe.
Warrington Gillette, who played serial killer Jason Vorhees in 1981's Friday the 13th Part 2, was attending an event on Friday honouring the new slasher remake.
The actor arrived in full costume, wearing the character's famous ice hockey mask, and took to the stage to frighten partygoers wielding a real axe.
But his performance ended in disaster when a woman invaded the stage and tried to wrestle his weapon away from him, slashing his hand.
A source tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "She jumped on stage and tried to grab his axe. It was straight out of a horror movie. Lingerie-clad models were running and screaming, as a blood-soaked Jason ran off the runway to get to a hospital."
The character Vorhees has been played by ten actors over the course of 12 films, with Derek Mears playing the latest incarnation of the mass murderer.

Just about everyone who is evenly slightly versed in pop culture knows who Jason Vorhees is. Even those who have never seen a Friday the 13th film are familiar with the name. Jason's iconic status as a serial killer has him joining the ranks of serial killers the likes of which only Michael Meyers and Freddy Krueger have achieved. Because everything old is suddenly new again, New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures are co-producing a remake of the 1980 low budget slasher flick. It hits theaters this Friday, February 13 (big surprise) and both studios are undoubtedly already counting the box office dollars in their minds even though not a single ticket has been sold. As the date nears, Paramount has grabbed some of the original films out of their vault and given them slick new DVD releases, the first one even hitting Blu-ray (read Brad's review of that one here...

Sometimes you wanna go where you know everybody’s name. For diehard fans, that’s the fun of revisiting Friday The 13th. Even if you’ve heard or read some of the stories contained in His Name Was Jason at conventions, in books like Peter Bracke’s Crystal Lake Memories and the documentaries, etc. included on the 2004 Friday DVD box, there’s still a weird lust for some of us to search for undiscovered livers and gizzards in the franchise’s body.

Actor Makes Film about His Dad's Mysterious Death
Friday the 13th Part 2 star Warrington Gillette II has co-written a horror movie scrutinizing his real-life stepmother's bizarre reaction to his father's mysterious death. Gillette II remains devastated over the unclear circumstances of his dad F.Warrington Gillet Jr's sudden death on 13 May 2002 and is still baffled by Palm Beach, Florida, socialite Elesabeth Ingalls Gillet's unusual behavior in the months following his demise. So he's shooting Bloody Special in an effort to avenge Elesabeth's decision to flee on a Mediterranean cruise with her new boyfriend, Cuban clothing salesman Andy Avello, so soon after the funeral. But Elesabeth insists Gillette II's film is just a tasteless means of making money. Gillette II - who played legendary movie madman Jason Voorhees in the 1981 second installment of the popular horror franchise - explains his storyline to website Pagesix.Com: "Now the son discovered to his dismay (that) there is no tombstone on his daddy's grave. What heiress in Palm Beach would forget a tombstone? How grave! Something is certainly wrong with this picture." Gillette II, 44, started writing a movie about his life at the urging of his producer friend Larry Spangler. Spangler adds, "When his father died, I smelled a rat. He talked to his father every day for 20 years. But they never let him in the house after that." However, Elesabeth rejects accusations she was having an affair with Avello - who's now dying - insisting their love didn't flourish until six months after her husband's death. She says, "The poor man (Avello) is dying now. The whole thing is a lie. The boy (Warrington) is very mixed up. He is desperate for money." Two years ago Warrington made an aborted attempt to have his father's body exhumed for forensic testing, claiming he backed off after receiving death threats.
