I can’t remember watching a home invasion horror movie for a long time and then two come along at once. First, I watched By Night’s End and then The Owners comes along… I wouldn’t say it’s a sub genre I love but it has produced some really great movies – the likes of The Strangers, You’re Next, Don’t Breathe, Inside and Hush are all highly entertaining.
There is a tendency for lower budget home invasion offerings to go down the same path and stick to ideas that have been used time and time again. Meaning that many feel very samey. The Owners, at the very least, does try to do things a little bit different. So much so, that at about the...

Writer/director Julius Berg's feature film debut is an unexpectedly fun thriller that bucks expectations.
The Owners stars Jake Curran, Andrew Ellis and Ian Kenny as Gaz, Terry and Nathan, a trio of friends who hatch a plan to break into the home of a local wealthy doctor, crack the safe and get away with the loot. It's a full-proof plan: they know when the doctor and his wife will be way, they know where the safe is and they have a safe cracker but the plan starts to fall apart almost immediately. Mary, (Maisie Williams), Nathan's girlfriend, comes looking for him and causing all sorts of trouble, the safe isn't the type that the crew came prepared to crack and just as the would-be thieves come up with a new plan to get the loot, they're faced with the fact that the meek docto...

"I've told you a thousand times... shoes off at the door!" Rlje Films has released the trailer for a horror thriller titled The Owners, marking the feature directorial debut of French filmmaker Julius Berg. A group of friends think they find an easy score at an empty house with a safe full of cash. But when the owners, an elderly couple, come home early, the tables are suddenly turned. Conceptually this looks like the typical rob-a-big-house-that-looks-empty horror concept mashed up with The Visit. This nice elderly couple are actually maniacs who are going to torture you! Watch out, they are not so nice after all... The Owners stars Maisie Williams, with Sylvester McCoy and Rita Tushingham as the charming Huggins, plus Ian Kenny, Jake Curran, Andrew Ellis, and Stacha Hicks. This definitely looks creepy! But mostly for horror fans. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Julius Berg's The Owners,...

Wonderfully weird madcap nonsense: imagine Monty Python staging a Victorian sitcom. I’m “biast” (pro): am enjoying the work director Mary Franklin is staging
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
I have not read the source material
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
My adventures exploring London’s creative fringe continued last weekend when I attended a performance of a new production from director Mary Franklin of theatre company Rough Haired Pointer. (I’ve previously reviewed her The Boy Who Cried and Cleopatra.) This time I discovered a new (to me) pub theatre, the The White Bear Theatre in Kennington, South London, a long-running and storied venue. It’s a fabulous little space at the back of a friendly, unpretentious neighborhood pub… and it’s precisely the sort of place that the comedic protagonist of The Diary of a Nobodywould be horrified to be seen in.

For now have a look at a short clip from the film and when a precise release date is announced the date will be posted here.

NBC's newest adventure series has had a rocky journey. The network believed in the Crusoe TV show enough to give it lots of promotion but saddled it with a Friday timeslot, one of the least-watched nights of television. Did the series ever have a chance for survival?
Crusoe is based on the 1719 Robinson Crusoe novel by Daniel Defoe. The series follows the adventures of a young man, Robinson Crusoe (Philip Winchester), who leaves his wife, Susannah (Anna Walton), and children to go to the high-seas in search of riches to settle his impending debts. Crusoe ends up stranded on a remote island where he befriends a native named Friday (Tongayi Chirisa). While trying to find a way off the remote island, the two must battle the elements and intruders for survival.
