Clarence Carnes was born on 14 January 1927 in Oklahoma, USA. He was a writer, known for Alcatraz: The Whole Shocking Story (1980). He died on 3 October 1988 in Springfield, Missouri, USA.
Carnes was an inmate at Alcatraz Prison who was involved in a famous
escape attempt on May 2, 1946, when six prisoners overpowered a guard,
took some weapons and attempted to shoot their way out. In the ensuing
gun battle, several prisoners and guards were killed. Carnes was
captured and had an additional 99 years added to his sentence.
