John Wayne Bobbitt, known for the horrific incident in 1993 when his wife severed his genitals, has recently undergone a medical procedure to amputate his toes, more than three decades after the traumatic event.

At the age of 57, Bobbitt shared that the amputation was necessary due to toxic peripheral polyneuropathy. This condition is a result of his time as a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina in the 1980s when the base’s water supply was severely contaminated. The contaminated water has since been linked to various illnesses, such as cancer.

According to the Mayo Clinic, toxic peripheral polyneuropathy often manifests as weakness, numbness, and pain and primarily affects the hands and feet. It can also impact other bodily functions, such as digestion and urination.

John Wayne Bobbitt, who made headlines in 1993 when his then-wife Lorena Bobbitt sliced off his penis, has now had all his toes amputated. The former Marine opened up about the amputations in an interview with The Sun, where he revealed he was diagnosed with toxic peripheral polyneuropathy after being exposed to contaminated water at the Camp Lejeune military training facility in the late 1980s. According to the Foundation For Pn, the condition can result in pain, tingling, and numbness in the feet, as well as weakness and difficulty walking. In some cases, it can also cause gastrointestinal symptoms, central nervous system involvement, optic neuropathy, muscle lesions, or other systemic involvement. As a result, Bobbitt underwent several operations to remove his toes. He told The Sun that he had his remaining toes amputated in 2023. He now wears prosthetic shoes, walks with a limp, and has no sensations in his feet due to the nerve damage.

Amazon has given the green light to Lorena, a four-part documentary series about the notorious case of spouses Lorena and John Wayne Bobbitt, with Jorden Peele (Get Out) attached to executive produce via his Monkeypaw Productions and Sonar Entertainment.

The docuseries is said to provide a fresh perspective on the story of Lorena Bobbitt, the Virginia woman who in 1993 infamously cut off her husband’s penis with a kitchen knife as he slept, and how one event laid the groundwork for the modern 24-hour news cycle and increasingly sensationalistic media coverage. More than 23 years after John Wayne Bobbitt’s penis was reattached after his wife cut it off, people have one burning question: does it still work?

John Wayne Bobbitt has been kicked off a celebrity fight bill after being arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada, for allegedly beating up his new wife. Bobbitt was billed to step into the ring with scandalous Joey Buttafuoco for "Celebrity Boxing 2" on May 22, but he has since been dropped. The 35-year-old ex-Marine spent Monday night behind bars for reportedly punching and kicking his new wife of seven weeks, Joanne, ironically during an argument about his appearance on the Celebrity Boxing show. He was released on Tuesday on $5,000 bail. Joanne, who says she intends to file for a divorce, claims Bobbitt slammed her to ground, fracturing her tailbone and finger. Las Vegas police confirm Bobbit was arrested on charges of misdemeanor battery, domestic violence, and for violating his 1999 probation on attempted grand larceny when he tried to steal $150,000 worth of clothes. If convicted, Bobbitt faces up to a year in prison. Meanwhile, studio executives at 20th Century Fox, who are airing the televised boxing line up, have replaced Bobbitt with former wrestler Joanie Laurer, aka Chyna.
