After making his entry into the film industry and gaining significant recognition with films like Risky Business, Tom Cruise had his major breakout in the 1986 action drama Top Gun, portraying Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchel. He later reprised the role in the 2022 sequel, which has since become the highest-grossing film of his career.
However, the foundation for a successful franchise, which has a third installment on the way, might never have been laid without Ridley Scott’s 1985 film Legend, which inspired the action star to explore adventurous stories such as Top Gun.

Tom Cruise is one of the most renowned talents in the entertainment industry, never hesitating to do what needs to be done to deliver performances that would leave viewers absolutely baffled. Something similar happened on the sets of his 1993 sports romance All the Right Moves as well. Apparently, during filming, there was a moment when his co-star Lea Thompson was asked to get n-ked, but she wasn’t comfortable doing that. Thus, Cruise not only talked the producers out of it but even threatened to get n-ked himself if his conditions weren’t met!

Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey was first accused of s*xual misconduct in 2017 after Anthony Rapp alleged that Spacey had made s*xual advances toward him at a party in 1986, when he was just 15 and the actor was 27. Thereafter, Spacey faced multiple lawsuits and his career imploded at the height of the #MeToo movement.

In the movies and on TV, Presidents of the United States receive all the attention. From Abraham Lincoln to John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan, it’s the Presidents that get the big feature film treatment. But what about their Vice Presidents who often serve so loyally? Sadly, as is true in real life, they are usually reduced to second banana status, often depicted as either ineffectual lapdogs or power-hungry back-stabbers.
Nevertheless, there’s been a surprising number of Vice Presidential characters who have broken through over the years in both film and television, usually played by consummate actors who know just how to make an often-forgotten character pop on screen. From an honorable woman being wooed for the job, to a power-mad Vice Presidential couple, to an epic nincompoop with an unparalleled talent for failing upward, these VPs have made their mark on audiences around the world.

Johnny Depp’s comeback to Hollywood may not be as meteoric as his initial rise to fame, but he’s definitely taking more meaningful steps than cancelled counterpart Kevin Spacey.
However bold he’s been to so far carve his Hollywood comeback, he wouldn’t have taken on his latest project had it not been for an old friend.
Johnny Depp – Seemingly Calls Amber Heard Defamation Case A “Soap Opera”
Depp is still winning and scoring points despite being accused of sexual and physical abuse from his ex Amber Heard. For one his ‘Modi’ stars believe that “he’s the nicest, the kindest, the sweetest man I’ve ever worked with in my life” and should be celebrated so.
‘Modi’ marks Depp’s second directorial project and first in as many years. The movie follows Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani’s life, with legendary actor Al Pacino playing one of the lead roles.

One of the most famous scenes in Peter Weir's "Dead Poets Society" finds unorthodox prep school English teacher John Keating vilifying an essay written by the fictional Dr. J. Evans Pritchard that seeks to determine the excellence of individual poems via the application of a geometrical formula. The works of Byron and Shakespeare are measured in terms of their importance and degree of technical perfection; those that score highly on both counts cover a large area, and are thus considered truly "great." The horrified Keating therefore commands his teenage pupils to tear Pritchard's laughably square introduction out of their textbooks.
Art is not math. Creative works can't be measured on a numerical scale, or, worse, by up- or downturned thumbs. When you walk out of a movie or hash out your feelings about a novel with your book club compatriots, you don't quickly assign whatever it is you've just engaged a number,...

"Make me believe why I should deal with you ever again!" Time for yet another Classic Trailer Rewatch session. Back to the 90s for another big summer movie from that era. The Negotiator was one of the big summer movies in 1998, opening at the end of July after lots of early hype. I remember being very excited to watch it and find out what was going on, and I recall everyone else being into it, too. Strangely checking the box office numbers, it only ended up earning $44M on a $43.M budget. I thought it was a bigger hit - but I guess not! In a desperate attempt to prove his innocence, a skilled police negotiator accused of corruption and murder takes hostages in a government office to gain the time he needs to find the truth. I love the twist in this - the expert negotiator becomes the hostage...

Barring the occasional doorstep TMZ video or red carpet event appearance, the public hasn’t seen much of 34-year-old actor Jonathan Majors lately. The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star was sentenced in April to a 52-week domestic violence intervention program after being convicted of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in December after an altercation with his then-girlfriend. The performer was ordered to continue mental health counseling and therapy and provide the court with updates on treatment.

Demi Moore is getting her due thanks to Metrograph.
The “Substance” actress and Hollywood icon is being honored by Metrograph with a five-film series of Moore’s most beloved features, as curated by the theater. Titled “We Want Moore,” the mini festival begins September 13.
“The rapturous reception of Demi Moore’s performance in Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival seems to have reminded many people that the New Mexico-born actress is a bona fide movie star — not just in terms of box office receipts and magazine cover shoots, but in her seemingly effortless ability to command the screen every time she walks into frame,” the Metrograph press statement reads. “In ‘We Want Moore,’ we’ve brought together some other timely reminders.”
Selected films screening in 35mm include Moore’s iconic turns in “Ghost,” “Indecent Proposal,” and “Striptease,” which Moore recently told Variety was one of her most under-appreciated performances.

Some towns, awash in money and power, need insiders to make sure it doesn’t all go haywire. It might be politely described as being a crisis manager, but we all know them as fixers. A place like Washington D.C. needs them. Witness Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington) who helped President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) win office in ABC’s Scandal. There’s also Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) putting out the fires for Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) on Netflix’s House of Cards, guiding his crooked rise from House Whip to VP and then to President. Los Angeles needs them, too. Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber) made sure Tinsel Town kept the movies and TV shows on track by covering up the misdeeds of producers and actors. Even a sleepier town like Albuquerque needs them, especially to protect the proceeds of the drug trade like Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks...

Content warning: cites and links to reporting and personal essays on sexual abuse
We’re coming up on the seventh anniversary of a world-changing event: the publication of Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey’s bombshell New York Times exposé, “Harvey Weinstein Paid Off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades.” The story had immediate effect in the entertainment industry, as survivors of sexual misconduct (or worse) by powerful men came forward with their own stories, seeing evidence that journalists were interested in reporting out their stories. Historically, abusers with enough money or clout could kill damaging features about their actions; maybe that era was finally coming to an end. Or maybe abusers have just spent the last seven years learning how to ride out allegations and then go back to work.

Can Tom Cruise, who has spent the last decade dominating the box office with explosive hits like the Mission: Impossible series and Top Gun: Maverick, finally snag that elusive Oscar? Recent reports suggest that the cast for Iñárritu’s next cinematic escapade reads like a who’s who of Hollywood talent, including Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
The screenplay, a brainchild of Iñárritu along with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolas Giacobone, tells the tale of a man with untold power who’s caused a colossal mess but must convince humanity that he’s their knight in shining armor.

The Blacklist remained one of the most popular shows on network television for the better part of a decade. Part of the reason for the show’s continued popularity, especially its longevity has to be lead star James Spader, who brought a sense of charm and wit to the criminal mastermind Raymond “Red” Reddington.

Given Spader’s influence on the character and the series overall, it is hard to imagine anyone else in the role. As a result, it might shock some fans to learn that Spader wasn’t the original choice for the role of Red. Many of the advancements of the #MeToo movement have crumbled around us in real time. Disgraced entertainers like Louis C.K. and Kevin Spacey are back. Women's rights are once again a major battleground in this year's presidential race. Even Harvey Weinstein's rape conviction was overturned. It's unsurprising, if depressing,...

Real estate investor Sam Asgari has claimed that actor Kevin Spacey is “refusing to leave” the Baltimore mansion he recently sold to Asgari.
Spacey, the former star of the Netflix series House of Cards, sold the waterfront property for $3.24 million to Asgari, who had purchased it anonymously.
According to Asgari, Spacey, 65, was forced to sell the property to cover the “millions of dollars” in legal fees he owes in the wake of his 2023 sexual assault trial. However, Asgari now alleges that Spacey has asked to remain in the home rent-free for the next six months, a claim that Spacey’s lawyer has decreed to be “false.”

Christopher McQuarrie is easily one of the most commendable filmmakers in Hollywood’s entire entertainment industry, having helmed masterpieces such as the Mission Impossible film series. While his innumerable action works with Tom Cruise—like Top Gun: Maverick—are one thing, he has landed award-winning pieces in the crime/thriller genre as well.

The perfect example of this is his critically acclaimed thriller/crime piece with filmmaker Bryan Singer from 1995, The Usual Suspects. To say the least, the film granted him a BAFTA and an Academy Award for his admirable excellence. But it all may not have been possible had it not been for McQuarrie’s greatest stroke of genius in creating one of the best scripts ever!

“What’s in the box?” The very fact that you just heard Brad Pitt‘s unique delivery in your head demonstrates how iconic that line has become. The question and reveal brought David Fincher‘s unrelentingly bleak crime thriller, Seven, to a head (sorry) and confirmed a hopelessly despairing worldview.
The box, of course, contained the severed head of Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow), the sweet wife to Pitt’s detective David. The disembodying is the final move by the serial killer John Doe (Kevin Spacey), who based his crimes on Catholicism’s Seven Deadly Sins. Doe killed Tracy out of Envy, driving David to kill him out of anger. Together Wrath and Envy are punished.
Although that upsetting climax was indeed in the script by Andrew Kevin Walker, Pitt recently revealed that some at the studio New Line Cinema wanted something else entirely in that box.

Coffee may be for closers, and now acclaimed actors Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, and Bill Burr are getting their own highly caffeinated taste of Broadway legend.
The trio will lead the revival of David Mamet’s iconic play “Glengarry Glen Ross” in Spring 2025. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama was famously adapted into the 1992 film starring Alec Baldwin, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, and Al Pacino.
“Glengarry Glen Ross” is set in a cutthroat Chicago real estate office where four salespeople compete to sell mostly worthless properties to unwitting customers. Whoever sells the most wins a car; whoever sells the least is out of a job – a ruthless environment where each character will do anything to come out on top, per the official synopsis.
Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award winner Culkin returns to Broadway after his turn in “Succession” and the upcoming “A Real Pain.

On a recent July afternoon, the ever-mercurial Tom Rothman arrives in good spirits for a tour of Columbia Pictures’ archives in honor of the studio’s 100th anniversary. “Ask a lot of questions, because after this, I must go back to work,” says Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman. “This is way more fun than getting yelled at by agents.”
Naturally, Rothman — one of Hollywood’s longest-running studio chiefs, who’s been in his current gig since 2015 and has overseen the most profitable period in Columbia’s recent history — starts off by noting the costumes from marquee franchise Spider-Man. By his calculation, the collection houses more than 30 superhero suits at the archive from various Spider-Man movies.
“I recognize this very well — it was worth $2 billion at the box office to us,” says Rothman, pointing to a suit worn by Tom Holland in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Both that...

For over a decade, Kevin Spacey seemed untouchable. An acclaimed actor known for intense, calculating roles, he rose to become one of Hollywood’s most powerful figures. But behind the fame lay disturbing allegations, spoken only in whispers. In 2023, director Katherine Haywood set out to give those whispers a voice.
Haywood’s documentary series Spacey Unmasked shares the testimonies of ten men who encountered Spacey early in his career, through his Oscar-winning prime and beyond. Their experiences span four decades, from unknown stages to the biggest streaming hits. Though varied in when and where, a troubling pattern emerges in how Spacey allegedly used his influence to cross boundaries.
While past courts found insufficient evidence to convict, this film isn’t a trial but a chance to understand. Interviewing alleged victims with empathy, Haywood aims not to prejudge but to provide perspective. She traces Spacey’s meteoric rise alongside his troubled past,...

With Richard Linklater, Edgar Wright, and Tom Cruise calling Glen Powell the modern version of an Old Hollywood leading man, it’s only fitting that Paul Schrader would chime in.
The “Oh, Canada” writer/director posted on Facebook that Powell is akin to Paul Newman, Robert Mitchum, and William Holden in terms of his star power.
“Glen Powell is a movie star in the Holden/Mitchum/Newman mold,” Schrader wrote. “Now he needs to make his ‘Hud.'”
Newman starred in the 1963 Western-tinged drama “Hud,” directed by Martin Ritt, which helped cement the rise of the antihero main characters. Newman’s titular Hud Bannon lives on his family cattle ranch in Texas and battles his nephew (Brandon de Wilde) for the affections of housekeeper Alma (Patricia Neal). Armie Hammer recently spoke with Piers Morgan and said Hollywood producers would be “smart” to cast actors such as himself or Kevin Spacey as they would probably be able to snag them for a “pretty cheap” price. While Hollywood is certainly always eager to save a buck, I’m not sure I can see that happening anytime soon. Hammer was one of Hollywood’s biggest upcoming actors, but when several women came forward with sexual assault allegations against him in 2021 (not to mention those bizarre cannibalism claims), his career was over.
“If they were smart, they could get guys like two-time Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey for probably pretty cheap right now, for a good project,” Hammer said. As soon as the allegations surfaced, the actor was dropped from pretty much every project on his slate, which led to him seeking multiple jobs in the Cayman Islands. But despite being “cancelled” and broke,...

It’s nearly been a year since Kevin Spacey was acquitted of all nine sexual offense charges in a U.K. criminal trial, and the two-time Oscar winner has publicly admitted that his career is still in the doldrums.
The two solitary projects of his that have released in the last 12 months — “Control” and “Peter Five Eight,” both low-budget indie features and far removed from the starry features he was leading before his glittering four-decade career imploded when allegations first emerged in 2017 — landed without much noise. In a tearful interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” in June, he claimed that he owed so “many millions” of dollars in legal fees that his house in the U.S had been foreclosed and he’d almost had to file for bankruptcy several times.
But while he may still be the highest profile actor effectively “canceled” by mainstream Hollywood in the wake of the #MeToo movement,...

Tony-winner Jonathan Groff is set to star in a staged reading next month of a new musical about Bobby Darin, the 1950s-’60s-era singer who scored hits with “Mack the Knife,” “Dream Lover” and “Beyond The Sea,” Deadline has confirmed.
With an eye toward Broadway, Groff will perform the industry reading of Just In Time in New York next month. Alex Timbers will direct the reading, as he did in 2018 when he teamed with Groff on an early concert version of the musical at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan.
The musical takes its name from the Jule Styne-Adolph Green-Betty Comden song “Just In Time,” which Darin, among many others, recorded.
Attached to produce for an eventual Broadway run are Tom Kirdahy and Robert Ahrens. The reading in New York will be staged under the auspices of the Arlington, Virginia, non-profit regional theater Signature Theatre.

Sharon Stone believes that Kevin Spacey is still “canceled” due to his sexual orientation and not the allegations against him of assault.
Stone told The Hollywood Reporter that while Spacey “grabbed people by their genitals,” so goes the standard in Hollywood. According to Stone, however, it is solely due to the fact that the allegations against Spacey are queer that Spacey’s career hasn’t recovered.
“He’s reached out to everybody he’s offended and said he’s sorry,” Stone said. “Kevin grabbed people by their genitals. Many people. But nobody [has publicly said] he’s raped them or forced them into a sexual encounter. But there’s so much hatred for him because in his case it was man-on-man. That’s why he’s not allowed to come back. Because he offended men.”
She continued, “But can I tell you how many men have grabbed my genitals in my lifetime? A...
