Wicked is one of the biggest and best movies of 2024. It's made over half a billion dollars at the box office, surpassing Mamma Mia! to become the most successful movie ever adapted from a stage musical. Fans have been waiting for a movie version of Wicked ever since the musical hit the stage way back in 2003, so it's no surprise that people turned out to see the film.
Before that, Wicked was a book by author Gregory Maguire: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, published in 1995. The book, which reimagines the story of The Wizard of Oz from the Wicked Witch of the West's point of view, was a hit right from the start, and there were attempts to turn it into a more straightforward movie before composer Stephen Schwartz got ahold of it and made it a musical smash.

Easily one of the most popular franchises in Hollywood, Tomb Raider has become synonymous with Angelina Jolie. However, what many fans do not know is that the actress initially declined the offer to play Lara Croft. According to her, she did not feel like the role suited her much at the time.

However, the creators told her that she would have a chance to travel the world because of the movie. Not only that, she also got the chance to train with the British military. So she took a few months and put herself through the process. The end result was the 2001 Tomb Raider movie, which sort of became her signature style as the years went on.

Why Did Keanu Reeves Land In A “Movie Jail?” ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Keanu Reeves is known for crazy comebacks, but according to Looper, before John Wick, he faced “movie jail” after turning down Speed 2: Cruise Control. The phase came after Reeves reached heights of success for playing Neo in The Matrix and the iconic Jack Traven in Speed. Fox rushed for a sequel after Speed became a $350M hit. But Reeves, who felt burnt out and craved new challenges, said no. That choice sidelined him for years until he finally reclaimed his action-hero throne with John Wick.
Fox had grand plans for Speed 2. Sandra Bullock was on board, lured by the promise of financing her passion project, Hope Floats. The plot swapped the original’s adrenaline-pumping bus for a cruise ship nightmare, but Reeves wasn’t sold. Why? “I didn’t want to do two action movies back-to-back,...

Did Joaquin Phoenix Receive Oscar Nomination For Her? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Joaquin Phoenix was after something real. In Her, Spike Jonze’s 2013 sci-fi love story, Phoenix fell for an unexpected love interest: a voice-controlled AI named Samantha, voiced by Scarlett Johansson. Yep, a computer operating system. It sounds weird, but it led to one of Phoenix’s most raw and emotionally charged performances ever.
Phoenix saw something special in Her. In an interview with Reuters, he admitted, “I thought it was really interesting and unique, that there was this great emotional center you could grab onto, that it wasn’t too esoteric.” Basically, he saw a love story stripped of clichés, something real and raw. It was a chance to explore intimacy and isolation through a futuristic lens—and Phoenix was all in.

top actresses who were about to star in Wicked (Photo Credit – Instagram)
The success of Wicked has opened up a lot of unique conversations when it comes to films and their production. Whether it’s the equal pay received by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande or the casting process of the musical fantasy. The blockbuster film, co-starring Jonathan Bailey, has dominated the box office worldwide and its collections are increasing with each day.
But the film which was adapted from the stage musical of the same name wasn’t always supposed to be led by this set of actors. Marc Platt, one of the two producers of the movie, recently opened up about how years back several A-list actors were in talks to star in Wicked. Here’s what we know.

Two decades ago, the Wicked movie could’ve looked very different.
In a joint conversation with Vanity Fair, Marc Platt, who produced the 2024 film, Wicked author Gregory Maguire and composer Stephen Schwartz recalled the first efforts in the late 1990s to turn the story into a feature film.
He detailed a world in which stars like Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman and more were interested in playing the beloved roles of Elphaba and Glinda, which eventually went to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in this year’s adaptation of the musical.
“I am going to try and get the timeline right if I can remember, but I believe when I became the president of production at Universal, the project was already here,” Platt said. “It had been optioned initially by Demi Moore’s company.”

Long before Wicked made the jump from stage to screen, the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel had Hollywood in a frenzy.
Jon M. Chu‘s recent movie musical adaptation marks a long journey to the big screen for the Wizard of Oz prequel, with Whoopi Goldberg vying for the rights to Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West shortly after the bestseller’s debut.
“This is true,” Goldberg’s rep told Vanity Fair. “Whoopi loved the book and tried hard to get the rights.”
According to Maguire, Goldberg wasn’t the only actress to throw her hat in the ring. “People who had expressed an interest in the first six months included Whoopi Goldberg and Claire Danes. Salma Hayek had had some interest, and Laurie Metcalf,” he recalled.

Casey Bloys was questioned by press this evening at a rare Max showcase in London as a small number of attendees were treated to sneak peeks of The White Lotus, The Last of Us and Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso) has landed a role alongside John Cena and Jessica Biel in Apple’s live-action Matchbox film from Skydance and Mattel Films.
While the film is inspired by Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name, there’s no word yet on who Richardson is playing.
The Matchbox brand was invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox. When his daughter’s school friends, too, began clamoring for a “matchbox car,” an enduring brand was born. The high standards of authenticity for Matchbox die-cast cars have driven the brand for over 70 years and generations of fans. Today, two Matchbox cars are sold every second somewhere around the world.

This story contains spoilers for the Nov. 19 episode of “Dancing With the Stars”
In Tuesday night’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” each of the five remaining couples performed one ballroom dance and one Latin dance but only four earned enough points and votes to go on to next week’s finale… at least that’s how the show usually works.
The elimination came down to the two Olympic athletes: Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik… but, in a repeat of Season 32, no one was sent home before the finale. Which means all five couples will be competing in the finale.

Some people will say, ‘Don’t mess with it—you’ll ruin it.’ And I probably will. But I’m thrilled because I’ve found a way to make it happen.”
Smith is confident that Affleck and Damon will return as fallen angels Bartleby and Loki. He humorously added that after helping them with Good Will Hunting in 1997, they owe him.

After 25 years, Kevin Smith is reconnecting with the man upstairs for the unholiest of sequels.
During his Dogma Confessional on Sunday at Vulture Festival, the View Askewniverse creator revealed that he’s working on a sequel to the 1999 film, and he expects Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to return for cameos at least.
“Some people will be like, ‘Don’t f—ing touch it. You’ll ruin it,'” said Smith. “And I’m here to tell you: I will. I’m f—ing tickled. I found a way in.”
He sounded confident that Affleck and Damon would reprise their roles as fallen angels Bartleby and Loki. After Smith helped save the pair’s 1997 film Good Will Hunting, without so much as a thank you in their Golden Globes and Oscars speeches, they owe him.

Once known as the golden couple of Hollywood, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have constantly been in the spotlight, especially due to their legal battle. However, as Jolie returns to the screen with her new musical drama Maria, rumors have emerged suggesting that her ex-husband is attempting to undermine her Oscar chances.

However, it is unlikely that the alleged attempts from Pitt would succeed, especially after the Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins, renowned for Moonlight, publicly praised Jolie’s performance and even went on to compare her work to that of Denzel Washington’s iconic performance in Malcolm X.

Angelina Jolie is returning to the silver screen with her upcoming biographical psychological drama Maria, which premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and has received positive reviews from critics.

Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi Trilogy or Mexico Trilogy is now available in a new Blu-ray collection, which includes a 4K transfer of Desperado, courtesy of Arrow Video. The first movie was never truly intended to be a franchise starter. It was actually Rodriguez practicing how to make a movie. El Mariachi would put him on the map for film studios, but it was the sequel, Desperado, that brought him into the mainstream. It would also make Antonio Banderas an action star and introduced audiences to Salma Hayek. And it’s this manic film that we take a look at in this episode of Reel Action.
If you’re into movies, chances are you’ve heard the inspirational story behind Robert Rodriguez’s debut feature film. But if you aren’t up to speed, 1995’s Desperado is actually a sequel to a small film from 1992 called El Mariachi. And when I say small,...

Chris Evans has been sporting a bushy new beard on his Red One press tour and he’s explaining the choice behind the facial hair.
The 43-year-old actor was asked about his new look while attending the Red One premiere in New York City on Monday (November 11).
Keep reading to find out more…
Chris told Entertainment Tonight that the beard is for “a job I am working on.”
“It’s a film called Sacrifice with Anya Taylor-Joy and John Malkovich,” Chris added. The star-studded cast also includes Brendan Fraser, Salma Hayek, Charli Xcx, and Vincent Cassel, among others.
Deadline reports that Sacrifice — loosely inspired by the Joan Of Arc story — “tells the story of Joan (Taylor-Joy), a zealous spirit driven by a volcanic prophecy only she can hear, who is on a mission to save the world from a fiery reckoning. Along with her militia of mystical disciples, she hijacks...

While speaking to CinePop during D23 Brazil yesterday, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige shared an update on the status of an Eternals follow-up and spoke about the possibility of characters from the Inhumans making their MCU debut.
Eternals not only had the dubious honor of being the first Marvel Studios movie to drop to "rotten" status on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, but also finishing up its U.S. run with a disappointing $164.9 million to give it the lowest domestic haul of any McU-set film aside from 2008's The Incredible Hulk ($134M).
Even so, we appeared to get confirmation that a follow-up was in the early planning stages... when Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington (who made his MCU debut as Dane Whitman in the movie) suggested that the project had been scrapped!
Not exactly a surprise, but does that mean we won't be seeing Sersi, Thena, Kingo and the others...
