- Long-nosed Cyrano de Bergerac helps an army officer woo Roxane, the woman he loves.
- Gregory finds a pair of slippers that he assume belong to a former lover of his fiancée Ginny. She is planning to visit the owner, Philip, who is also her former employer to break off their relationship once and for all. However, when Gregory finds the address she tells him it belongs to her parents. So Gregory decides to visit Ginny's 'parents' unannounced to tell them he intents to marry her.

- Engineer De Hertog arrives in town to start a mining business, providing a lot of the villagers with new work. Chaplain Odekerke offers De Hertog a place to stay despite the fact that he is a protestant.
- René Bongaerts confesses to Odekerke that he set fire to Bonte's farm. Miete van der Schoor admits that she has loved Odekerke from the moment they first met.
- Wild Klaasje Weenink enters the Bonte household to help out Mrs Bonte, who has started her own grocery store. Despite her father's fervent communism, she wants to be baptized by Erik Odekerke. Paulus Lumens is settling in as the village's new parish priest after the retirement of Father Bonhomme. Erik's sister Truusje has come to replace Cathrien as his housekeeper. Miete discovers she is pregnant, but her husband Johannes appears to be more and more preoccupied with his secretary (and old flame) Tineke de Waal. Nicolaas Bonte is killed on his way home from Father Bonhomme, who has refused to bless his store.
- Martje draws closer to the widower Bongaerts. Johannes Den Hertog spends more time with his secretary Tineke than his pregnant wife Miete. The entire village prepares for a visit by the Monsigneur.
- Chaplain Odekerke reluctantly takes on the part of Zwarte Piet during the Sinterklaas celebration and is scolded for it by Father Lumens. After Miete's first child is born she questions Johannus about the measure of their love.

- Slangen has buried Slotmarieke on his own grounds and refuses to let anyone come near her grave. Odekerke is offered a new position in Roermond. Katrien marries Schoolmaster Bongaerts.
- Young assistant priest Erik Odekerke arrives at his first parish, Geleen, and introduces himself to the members of his "flock".
- Erik and his sister Truusje are looking after Miete and Johannes' child while they are away traveling. Klaasje Weenink has become pregnant by Dorus Bonte, but her father objects and, having drunk too much, strikes out at her.
