Amaia, who has just become a mother, decides to return for guidance after her partner is temporarily away, to her parents' house along the Basque coast.

Ana, 30, is an ambulance driver. Though good at her job, she has problems relating in her personal life. She doesn't know it, but she suffers from a condition known by psychiatrists as Borderline Personality Disorder. The situation pushes her to outbreaks of self-destructive behaviour, alcohol abuse and self-harm. Ana is incapable of getting what she wants most: to be happy.

Three extreme situations that are actually the same.

A group of young people dance and drink at a house. The atmosphere is festive and cheerful. Socialist victory in the general elections of 1982 seems recent. The night is full of euphoria and celebration. The attempt of coup d etat made in 1981 appears to be quite far away. We could say that in Spain, in 1982, everything was future. However, the future also looks closer at enormous speed, like a black hole that devours everything in its path.

Carla gets a call from the small town where she grew up in the South of Spain. Her father, who she hasn't spoken with in many years, is very ill. She refuses to face it and decides, against everyone's opinion, to take him to Barcelona, where she is convinced they'll be able to save him. They'll travel across the country in a desperate race to steal time from sickness and death, trying to recover lost time. And it is in that flight where the will finally find each other.

-Spoilers- Ana has just been dumped by her boyfriend Manuel. While living with him, she never liked him owning a pet because she thought it was cruel for the animal and not very hygienic. Once she even convinced Manuel to get rid of a turtle that was given to him as a birthday present. But now she has decided to get a puppy, partly as revenge for leaving her and partly to help her forget about him. She names him "Man" because he sees him as half "Manuel" but still twice the man he was. Time goes by and the dog grows up but she can't forget her ex-boyfriend, and she doesn't want the dog anymore. So she plans to give him away, as a Christmas present, to her brother. She leaves him in the car and has dinner with her family but when she comes back to get him, the car is gone and so is the dog. She feels very sad and tries to find Man. Until one day, Manuel shows up at her door with him. He tells Ana a story of how he bought the dog at the market they used to visit when they were together, and how surprised he was that the dog had lead him to her apartment. He tells her he wants them to get back together.
