- Profiles the 58-year-old American artist Dale Chihuly, who established his reputation in the 1980s as a leading figure in the Northwest glass movement in the U.S.A. The author describes Chihuly's education and role as a teacher, considers his involvement in the creation of the Pilchuck Glass School which was established in Stanwood, Washington in 1971, and became a central focus for the glass movement of the 1980s, and discusses a series of works based on the theme of the sea which established his reputation world-wide. He explains that by the 1990s Chihuly was well-known both for his art and for his role as mentor to artists wishing to learn glass-blowing and related crafts, examines his monumental series of large glass and steel chandeliers, and observes his related career as a CEO of a glass-related business.
