This is a beautiful movie. Definitely 'feel-good' but not in the condescending Hollywood way. It communicates so much, so clearly, without directly stating it in dialogue - not in a way that feels like it's dodging the subject matter, but just respecting the audience's intelligence. The movie doesn't shy away from the dark sides of the characters' lives, but also doesn't dwell on their fear and danger so much that it overwhelms the movie. The tone is mainly celebratory and joyful.
Only big bum note is the character of Cynthia, a shockingly dumb stereotype in a movie you'd think would be smart enough to avoid that kind of thing... luckily she's only in it for about five minutes. I did at least like the cartoon sound effects when she did her trick.
