I went into this film with fairly low expectations, and I got what I was expecting from this sort of low budget slasher. It feels like the whole film is more focused on making Art the Clown the next big horror icon than making anything around him interesting. As a result, it provides some great kills and unsettling moments with the villain, but everything else just falls flat. The characters are bland and unlikeable, the story is fueled by bad decision making, and nothing that happens had any impact on me due to just how little I cared about these protagonists. The film is constantly trying to push boundaries with the horror, at points it gets really weird, but it always feels pointless. It isn’t adding anything to the film by including these over the top, unsettling moments, it’s just trying to appeal to shock value. But while it certainly can be shocking, I found the whole thing to be more off-putting than impressive. At the end of the day, the only purpose in making this film was to deliver gore, and I did appreciate some of the practicality behind the kills, but everything else was just lackluster and highly unenjoyable for me.
