This is one of the most unique films I have ever watched, every aspect of the movie finds a way to be creative and different. It’s so energetic both visually and in the storytelling, everything happens at breakneck speed and it incorporates quick cuts very frequently, it’s always able to keep you entertained and to me it never felt like it went too far it order to have this style or that it got old over time, and it helped that the entire cast was able to keep up with the movie and everyone did a great job of matching the energy throughout the entire runtime. It’s made to feel reminiscent of a video game with both the editing and effects, but also the increasing difficulty of the challengers the main character has to go up against which is another stylistic decision that makes the movie distinct and very memorable. This opens the door for some great action scenes, a compelling romance, and comedic beats that consistently land, these are all things that I love seeing in movies which allows this to be one that achieves a comfort movie status for me. Edgar Wright has always been one of those filmmakers who has been on my radar for a while but I’ve never actually had a chance to check out anything he’s done, and this was a great first impression to his work that I had a ton of fun with.
