This movie has garnered quite a large cult following since its initial release, and it’s pretty easy to see why it stood out to so many people. It’s filled with some pretty cool ideas, it blends slasher and supernatural horror with a bit of teen drama thrown into the mix which makes for a distinct experience, and at times I really loved it’s creativity. It’s got a pretty great cast with several little appearances from recognizable faces, a soundtrack that’s perfectly able to match the energy of the film, and a solid sense of humor that gets chuckles here and there. All of the pieces were here to make for a perfectly enjoyable, entertaining film, but the actual story here did nothing for me. Because of the order in which the film explains certain pieces of information to the audience, it makes for a large chunk of the film where the audience doesn’t really know what’s going on, and aside from the very occasional kill scenes, the audience doesn’t really have much to latch on to. To be perfectly honest, I watched the movie with a couple of close friends which made the experience a lot more entertaining than it otherwise would have been, and had I not watched the film in that environment I think I would have been a lot less interested in it because of how slowly it moves through it’s plot points. There’s a lot of fun elements here, and it will definitely appeal to some people more than it did me, but the actual plot held it back for me personally.
