Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine

This gigasuccess of a third rounder for the merc with a mouth comes with both an exclamation and question mark in regards to where my own kino loving thoughts lands next to it, on one hand it's a swooshy paced fun popcorning multiversial time that brings solid studio R stamped action and a team up that is undeniably a good yin and yang synergetic romp, however it also comes with a big corporate terminal 5 level capitalist victory lap stench in how Feige and his hundreds of mousemillions is basically punching down the rest of the industry in celebratory "we own it all now tihihi" fashion, and reclaiming the throne of what action blockbusters a la Hollywood Hills should be, nostalgia milking and franchise overdosing with some great pizza slices of Pool and Wolv mashing it up makes it both an entertaining and frustrating time at the moopies

I have to admit that I was never that stoked about this project to begin with, I like plenty others have grown tired of the self branding blabbery schtick Ryan Reynolds parades around ad nauseaum, and believed Logan not only to be a fantastic comic book film but a genuinely perfect gritty heartfelt swan song for Jackmans iconic knifehandy canadian, so digging him back up with a golden MCU shovel always felt a bit icky and too fan servicey for me, but the best parts of this film also unsurprisingly was the repertoire he and Reynolds WW has, and a certain car centric back and forth they share that results in a suckerpunchy brawler squabble between them was pretty fabulous stuff and easily my favourite bit/sequence/scene whatevs you like to call it, so Jackman definitely brought the energy back once more here

But when it comes to the metatextual fourth wall breaking irony flooded joke machine being honked over and over and being quite hit or miss, the tacked on and daft attempts at "real drama" that just felt lousy and prefunctory as hell, and the rather bullyish jokes towards 20th century fox and a certain character who cameos in for a while, it does leave a sour taste in my mouth how all the humour in this film is being chuckled at those Disney and/or the writers deem lesser or fun to laugh at compared to the mighty MCU, yes yes there is one clear jab at the recent rocky years they've had themselves but otherwise this multiple timeline celebrity hosted raunchy and violent superhero adventure works just as much as a versus/team up film between two caper legends, as it does as rewind it back to get the train a rolling to cashville steady and safe

This new Marvel thrillride was more or less exactly what I expected and that's for better and for worse, the fact is that I was probably gonna wait this theater run out and catch it on streaming but the omnipresent nature it has grappled unto my feeds everywhere, spoiling every other frame and slightly fresh or surprising thing made me march away to see it at my local big screen, sure we don't really have a mono culture surrounding entertainment in a post blossoming Internet forums, Tumblr, reddit and Letterboxd world, MCU seems to be pretty darned close though considering the caché they have on cranking out the movies that those weird " I only watch about one or two movies in a cinema per year " people always show up and pay it up for them

Neat with a The Wrath of Khan reference in 2024 even though it's rather needless and unoriginal, but I'm not made out of stone you know so getting some Trekkie pandering in my capekino was welcomed
