I was lucky enough to see this early and in theaters on November 2nd because it was playing in select theaters. So The Killer is a very unique film, and I have not quite seen anything like it before. Sure, I have seen hitmen and assassin films, but the way this film follows Michael Fassbender and his thoughts makes this different, and I loved it. Michael Fassbender puts on a pretty remarkable performance, and I am not sure many other actors could pull this off. Just like many of David Fincher's films and shows like Mindhunter, The Killer is beautifully shot. There is a fight scene in this that is one of the most thrilling fight scenes I have ever seen in a film, and it is just an absolute jaw-dropper. These types of scenes are why David Fincher might be my favorite director of all time; he is the king of the thriller genre. The only aspect of The Killer that was lacking was the background story of the rest of the characters, but I think The Killer’s intention was to examine Michael Fassbender’s character, and everyone else was not as important. Sometimes, you might be better off focusing on and examining one character than developing a villain because if the villain does not work, the film will not work. Sometimes, less is more, and I think The Killer made the right decision to focus only on Michael Fassbender because he was great. Overall, this was a great film for me, and I recommend it.
