Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine

Warning Review Contains Spoilers.

Trivia.
1) In X-Men (2000), Wolverine says of the team's suits, "You actually go outside in these things?" to which Cyclops responds, "What would you prefer? Yellow spandex?"

2) Hugh Jackman said he really was done playing the character of Wolverine after Logan (2017). When asked why he chose to return for this film, he simply said, "I just wanted to do it & I felt it in my gut", adding that he wanted to have the best possible time ever on a movie set together with Ryan Reynolds.

3) While Wolverine & Deadpool are making their odyssey in the Honda Odyssey, the car's clock jumps ahead three hours during their conversation.

Timelord Thoughts.
Finally a Marvel comic book movie that kicks out wokeness & message preaching & brings back a action packed thrill ride that gives fans of these characters what they want fun filled entertainment.

Kudos to Co writer, Producer & star Ryan Reynolds for battling the powers that be at Disney & vetoed there planned woke inclusions & instead focusing the film on characters fans love & want to see which is Deadpool & Wolverine teaming up & kick ass in some R rated blood soaked carnage that delivers by the bucket load as the transition from Fox to Disney is seamless thanks to Shawn Levys direction who moves the action & story along at snappy pace.

Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool & once again he gives a hilarious performance as Wade Wilson who's fourth wall antics had me in hysterics with it's inappropriate humour & self aware one liners but adds a fully fleshed out character that features in some poignant moments which add a emotional depth to the character & the predicament Wades in saving his loved ones & his universe.

Hugh Jackman return is brilliantly handled as I was very intrigued how they were going to achieve this after the characters death in Logan. I liked that this Wolverine variant was flawed & had inner demons & was not just a heroic X-Men, we go on a journey with this version of the character as we see his failures to save those he cared about in his own universe slowly become the Wolverine we know & love so when he finally puts on the mask it's earned & is all the more rewarding.

The film’s cast also includes Dafne Keen as Laura a.k.a. X-23 & plays a pivotal role in Wolverines redemption & hasn't lost any of her fighting skills while other returnees include Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle: Wade's former fiancée,  Rob Delaney as Peter Wisdom: A car salesman alongside Wade & a member of his X-Force team, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Wade's blind elderly roommate, Karan Soni as Dopinder, a taxi driver & admirer of Wade, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, a teenage member of the X-Men with the mutant power to detonate atomic bursts from her body, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Negasonic Teenage Warhead's girlfriend & fellow X-Men member & Stefan Kapičić as the voice of X-Men member Colossus.

Matthew Macfadyen hams it up as the love to hate character Mr. Paradox a Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent who oversees an unsanctioned project to speed up the death of Earth-10005 with a "Time Ripper" machine & manipulate events to become the leader of the TVA.

So what about the cameos? Well there's a shit ton of them in this movie from Henry Cavill as a alternative Wolverine, Tyler Mane as Sabbertooth, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) & The Hulk to name but a few but there are three other returnees that have a more prominent role & these include Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra, Channing Tatum as Gambit & my favourite Wesley Snipes as Blade who when appeared I completely lost my mind as I am a huge Blade fan & never thought I'd see Wesley play the role again. What's great is these three characters aren't cameos they get involved during the third act final battle & kick ass which there's a lot of in this movie especially between Deadpool & Wolverine who clash several times throughout this movie.

When i heard the film was going to feature various multiverses I did roll my eyes at that plot arc & thought this would be another lazy time-travel movie but thankfully this works to its strengths & integral to the plot as Deadpool needs Wolverine to help him save his universe.

My only gripes was the main villain Cassandra Nova, a mutant in the Void with telekinetic & telepathic powers who was a little underdeveloped, Nova is the twin sister of Charles Xavier & played by Emma Corrin who did the best with the material she's given & is crucial to the plot but I just didn't connect with the character who i felt came across as one dimensional & immature instead of being intense & menacing & my other gripe was how characters from the previous Deadpool movies were sidelined to mere cameos & given nothing to do.

Overall ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ ticks the right boxes & shows if you shy away from force feeding woke elements & deliver a movie that fans want you achieve box office gold. This movie features great action, brutal fight sequences & great comedic humour in a fun-filled action-packed hilarious extravaganza.
