Timcop’s review published on Letterboxd:
As a fan of Revenge, I was hoping for more of that maximalist approach to genre formula that subverts your expectations. What I was not expecting was for this to go far beyond maximalist and eliminate any kind of subtext or tension altogether. I get that the movie is approaching its satire in the most grotesquely unsubtle way possible, but there's no buildup and no suspense whatsoever; it starts dialed up to 11 and stays there. And the length is an issue for something like this as well: a tight, 80-90 minute solid genre exercise might've worked more successfully, but it just drags on and for something as crazy as this, it shouldn't be this dull. It might've also worked better had the "Real World" been more grounded in reality instead of this dialed up, Francofied version of California where everyone is either a caricature or an irredeemable ghoul. I think the actors here are fine, but there's nothing that really impressed me from any of them. The ending also missed a huge opportunity to drag out some tension with a meltdown on live TV, instead of starting from a point of full transformation. I will say that the score has been drilled into my head for weeks now.
With all of the body horror and gore we witness throughout, nothing in the movie was as disgusting or gag-inducing as watching Dennis Quaid eat a plate of shrimp.
