This absurd and zany comedy is my first Marx Brothers film and overall, I enjoyed it very much. “Duck Soup” has a break-neck pacing and is basically gag after gag after gag. Those gags come in the form of witty quips, one-liners, wordplays, and insults, delightful musical numbers, and hilarious slapstick. My highlight has to be the perfectly executed mirror scene. Groucho is clearly the standout and most memorable character (he provides most of the highly quotable quips), but the Harpo/Chico comedy duo is also very entertaining (they are mainly responsible for the slapstick), while Zeppo doesn´t get opportunities to shine, unfortunately. The film is a bit too silly and gag-oriented for me but all in all, these are very entertaining 70 minutes of escapism.
