“Dark Glasses” is Dario Argento´s first new feature film since 2012s “Dracula 3D” and the best thing I can say about it is that it´s not as bad as “Dracula 3D” (few things are). But I also don´t see any “return to form”. For me, it´s roughly on the same level as “The Mother of Tears”, which has been my second-lowest rated Argento so far. “Dark Glasses” features horrible acting, an unremarkable plot, and lots of silliness but without the fun, and it left me with a feeling of “so that was it, huh?”. The gory kills and some shots are at least decent but lightyears away from the intoxicating style and directorial flair of “Suspiria”, “Deep Red”, or “Opera”. I don´t think Argento will ever get his mojo back, but that´s ok, everything comes to an end.
