The Brutalist was an experience that aggressively inflicted me with such complicated and conflicting thoughts and emotions. I’m so glad that I allowed myself to reflect, digest and discuss it with other people before publicly sharing my knee-jerk reaction after initially feeling nearly insulted by it.

Even though The Brutalist is clearly an incredibly layered and dense film that has mountains of things to say, on and beneath the surface, about the perverse reality of the American dream for foreigners,…

Audacious work here from Gilliam. The direction and visual personality, reminiscent of his best works (Fear and Loathing, Brazil), is my favorite thing about this. It’s insane how crucial it is to its world building with its consistently effective use of Dutch angles. Aesthetically it’s fantastic. Wow…. I feel absolutely privileged to be able to witness this level of sheer creative audacity on the big screen. Calling Beau is Afraid a unique cinematic experience feels like an understatement. It’s absolutely relentless with its commitment to dark comedic absurdity that’s presented with an impeccable level of craftsmanship resulting in one of the most original pieces of artful psychological filmmaking you’ll ever witness. By it’s own nature, it’s going to be a divisive piece because its a completely unfiltered…

PIG is a film that I knew nothing about going into it, except for the fact that it starred the legend himself Nic Cage, and it absolutely blew me away. What a beautiful, sincere, honest and human film this was. I don’t wanna give too much away but it’s a film that reminds us how love and identity is deeply rooted to simple things like food and nature. Please seek this film out if you can. It’s an incredibly impressive directorial debut from Michael Sarnoski. 9/10
