Believe the hype, The Brutalist is that good. It may seem presumptuous to already call it one of the great american epics alongside The Godfather, There Will Be Blood etc but the comparisons are being made for a reason. shot on VistaVision and with a 15 minute intermission, i don’t use this phrase lightly but cinema is back baby. the fact that we’re getting a film so grandiose in scale and so raw and human in its story in our current age of cinema is amazing. it’s so impressive that at such a young age and so early in his directing career that Brady Corbet is able to achieve something so masterful (also he’s just a cool af guy).the screenplay is fantastic, the cinematography is breathtaking and the score is beautiful. Adrien Brody is giving a career best, which is huge considering he has the Pianist in his filmography. Probably going 2 for 2 in the Best Actor category. Guy Pearce is undoubtedly a standout. He’s extremely charismatic, gradualling peeling away at the facade and becoming a sinister villian. The films 3h35 hours long and I didn’t want it to end.
Also David Byrne was sitting like two rows behind me so that was very exciting.
