When this movie is actually fun, man, it’s great. Jackman isn’t given much to do for the first hour aside from dropping F-bombs, but the second act really lets him shine. I was really just here for him, so that first hour was not ideal. I’m not into the whole Deadpool thing (haven’t seen 2) and I mostly can’t stand Ryan Reynolds. These movies are basically “cussing is cool, right?? Am I cool now??” But I wanted to see Hugh.
This is also the only kind of franchise movie that has me less cynical about callbacks. I don’t know man, I’m not expecting a Deadpool movie to make me cry or anything lol. There are some particular reveals about halfway through that were a ton of fun.
Basically, when this movie is fun, it’s a blast. Most of the time, I was just left waiting for time to pass. A Deadpool movie will never be my thing, so honestly, this was better than I expected lol.
