Shock

Having recently learned from another movie that scopolamine is a key component in creating a teenage werewolf, I was shocked it was prescribed to this movie's main character. Hasn't she got enough problems without turning into The She-Wolf of San Francisco?

Our heroine has gone catatonic after witnessing a murder. In a delightful twist, the psychiatrist who treats her is, in fact, the murderer. And if that's not delicious enough, he's played by Vincent Price.

Since a catatonic protagonist is a bit tricky, Price emerges as the real main character. He's not terribly dynamic either, but he has a Lady Macbeth of a nurse to nudge him along. Maybe she should have been the main character. She's an interesting femme fatale, not the typical glamorous spiderwoman but a calm professional with her eye on the main chance.

But it's Price who knows that sooner or later Fate, or the Production Code, will put the finger on you.
