Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine

Ok, I finally saw Deadpool 3, the movie that's said by a lot of middle schoolers and people who only watch Marvel movies that it"s "PEAK CINEMA".
Deadpool 3 was a movie that I was excited about when I was 18 and then 2 community college semesters and a pandemic later and my excitement for it passed me by. I got into other movies that weren't capeshit nonsense and watched "real' movies. I know I sound like a broken record but I don't care for Ryan Reynolds' style of comedy. His dry wit and sarcasm and frat boy look has grown tired for the past few years and his lack of evolution as a comedy actor really shows in the other movies he's been in since Deadpool (2016).
I will say that in this movie, he really tries to be as funny as he can be even if some of the jokes don't exactly land. Particularly the opening scene where Deadpool desecrates Logan's grave and uses the pieces of the corpse to kill the TVA guys. It's honestly one of the few good action sequences from a recent-MCU movie, and no, it doesn't touch the "No Sleep til Brooklyn" scene in Guardians 3. It starts off nice with Deadpool trying to find his place in the universe and then going on a timeline hopping mission to team up with a Wolverine variant to save the multiverse.
I will say tho that I'm surprised that it doesn't exactly tarnish Logan's ending, I mean besides Deadpool disrespecting the guy's legacy by using his adamantium skeleton as a weapon, it's made clear that he's a different Wolverine but not exactly as great how he was years ago. Hugh does the best he can with the scenes he was given but I'd really like this movie if he didn't wear that ridiculous outfit and mask. I never cared for Wolverine's iconic suit, I always favored him in his brown and yellow suit and him wearing a tank top and a jean jacket.
One of the gripes I have with the Deadpool trilogy as a whole is the three movies were made by 3 sauceless filmmakers, Tim Miller, David Leitch and Shawn Levy. Shawn Levy is a director that I do not like. Other than the fact that he's openly zionist, the recent movies that he has made are uninspired garbage with a lack of visual appeal or substance, this movie once again has no visual appeal and the void looks drab and uninspired, and man, this makes No Way Home look like The Godfather, half of its filmmaking felt like I was car commercials with Deadpool & Wolverine. The humor is a bit of a hit & miss, while I did laugh at some of the movie, there was not one scene that didn't have a joke in it. Deadpool says a joke, Logan gets pissed off, action scene, rinse and repeat.
Like the Truman Show Fortnite live action LEGO movie rip-off, Free Guy, there were celebrity cameos, LOTS OF THEM. This is just jingling keys: the movie, this is what Doctor Strange 2 could've been if Marvel had more cameos and didn’t let Sam Raimi do whatever the fuck he wanted. One particular cameo involving Channing Tatum's Gambit was pretty damn good, makes me wish that the movie he wanted happened, and I had a feeling that Wesley Snipes' Blade implied that the planned Blade reboot movie's not happening. Overall, these characters deserve better.
This movie also has the WORST soundtrack I've ever heard, every song served no purpose and was there to keep the scenes entertaining when really they almost made my ears bleed, I'd rather listen to the TV Glow soundtrack or any Awesome mix.
The things I did kinda like is Deadpool & Wolverine's buddy chemistry, Emma Corrin's Cassandra Nova even though she's just another MCU villain who won't appear in any other movie going forward, the homage to the Oldboy sequence with Deadpool & Wolverine slicing and dicing the other Deadpool variants, and the BTS clip of the other X-Men movies that came with the credits.
Overall, I wouldn't say that the MCU is saved, the movie insists that the franchise could be saved, and not when RDJ's been announced as the new Doctor Doom which will likely put an adamantium bullet into Marvel Studios. It keeps itself contained and not another event movie that sets up other movies or characters that we'll see in the future. It also had a sneaky way of implying of the IP machine destroying or launching franchises by studios that don't care about these properties and only do it for profit.
With all of its constant fourth-wall breaking and Deadpool-isms, it’s meta humor is only favored over its story and it’s attempt at telling a compelling story is overshadowed by constant gay jokes and fan service.
Also, this movie doing better than Twisters makes me a bit sad, OK, BYE.
