Not much worse than the original, but also not much better. I can’t believe they tried to make a sexy witch movie into a Holocaust drama. Doesn’t work for me. I honestly just can’t believe they remade Suspiria…and in a completely different style. Beyond pretentious. (This) Susie ultimately wasn’t a very interesting character either, despite the twist. And even though I’m a huge Radiohead fan, this score from Thom Yorke was weak. Even though the dance sequences were cool, this movie is problematic in several ways, including how it arrogantly neglects its source material.

Suspiria 1977
It’s a pretty stupid movie tbh (see: Dario Argento). I guess you have to watch it like you don’t care that it’s a pretty stupid movie. And if you watch it like it’s intentionally pretty stupid, then it’s actually kinda pretty good. Sorta. I just saw Goblin perform the score live along with the film. So that was cool. Why the maggots/rotten meat though? Like, what was the point? And why a bat? I’ve watched this stupid movie like four times and I’ve really tried to get into it, but almost everything that happens is pointless except for the last ten minutes. Don’t hex me.

Au Hasard Balthazar 1966
Jean-Luc Godard said this film is "the world in an hour and a half." I have nothing to say that I think will add to that. But I could probably talk about this film for hours.
I don't exactly think this film is perfect in every way. There are some awkwardly curious plotting choices. But that's somewhat irrelevant here because the curiousness of those choices seems to be completely intentional. The idea is that we are seeing life, not characters…

The Graduate 1967
It's exceedingly ironic that the older generation in this film is epitomized by their obsession with superficiality, when the only word I can come up with to describe Benjamin Braddock's personality is "plastic." Similar to the previous decade's Rebel Without a Cause, it's a film that achieves a lot, despite having a terribly underwritten lead character (both proudly performed by two talented actors) -- characters that were written and directed by men who were only marginally in touch with the…
