Japanuary 2025 (Criteria: Hirokazu Kore-eda)
What a devastating film. Kore-eda is quickly becoming one of my favorite Japanese directors. Watching this so soon after watching Monster a couple weeks ago solidifies this. He has such a talent for showcasing the trials of living. This might be the most depressing film from him that I've seen so far, but it hits those emotional notes so effectively through the film's pacing.

Japanuary 2025 (Criteria: Shinya Tsukamoto)
Love the aesthetic to this film so much. The constantly moving camera provides so much energy. I've had the Shinya Tsukamoto box set from Arrow for awhile now so it's about time I watched another film besides Tetsuo and Hiruko from him. His style so far just seems so kinetic and I just adore how much this film oozes late 90s. I could easily see loving this even more on a rewatch.

Very comfy film. Beautiful shots of nature accompanied by very serene noises. Also just an incredibly unique film. I really love how surreal it gets at certain points. Feels like a film that would be incredibly easy to rewatch. -

I will always love a film about forming a band. Very beautiful animation, especially the ballet sequence towards the end. The songs were pretty catchy as well. Had a really good time with this film.
