Four words. Thank you, John Hughes. Ferris Bueller's Day Off is, to me, a comedic masterpiece. Part of loving this film comes from nostalgia. I grew up watching many movies from the '80s with my parents. We watched most of John Hughes' movies like Home Alone, The Breakfast Club, and Sixteen Candles. Whenever I would watch this movie, it made me want to take a day off and spend it like Ferris Bueller. This movie never gets old and can never be remade. Matthew Brodick was the perfect choice for Ferris as he had enough charisma and charm to pull it off. The characters that accompany Ferris on his day off make their trio complete. Their chemistry is perfect, and their constant need to escape from Ed Rooney is beyond entertaining. The subtle humor, the in-your-face humor, the 4th-wall-breaking, and pretty much everything about the tone is perfect.
My favorite scene of the movie, and one of the most iconic, is probably the scene in the Art Institute of Chicago. Its beautifully done and has a comedic element to it with Cameron just staring at a particular spot of a very famous piece of art. Only small scenes like these make the film unforgettable. I can say with confidence that this is John Hughes' best movie. And to me, it's one of the greatest movies of all time. It's a classic, it's iconic, and it's so much fun. I always have a great time watching and re-watching.
