Jim Morrow’s review published on Letterboxd:
It's neither as funny as its fans suppose, or as awful as its detractors insist, but when it does get around to being funny, it's hard to beat the Les Grossman character. The film parodies at the start are some of the best things in the movie, but I've always thought the funniest parts all take place back in Hollywood, except for RD Jr.'s over-the-top parody of method acting. Actually, I didn't watch it last night, I listened to the commentary, which RD Jr. does in character. Cruise, McConaughy, and Downey are what makes this click when it does, but the laughs are pretty inconsistent and some of it is just downright stupid, but not in a good way. Everything about the "Simple Jack" arc is pretty much just shit, and Jack Black's character was mainly one note. He has a couple of really funny scenes, I won't quote the best one, but if you've seen it, you know the one everybody remembers. Silly fun, but fun nonetheless.
