Brit 🔪 𝖘𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖕𝖊𝖗𝖙𝖊𝖊𝖙𝖍 🔪’s review published on Letterboxd:
Watched the uncut version. This is the type of movie that you don’t want to know too much about ahead of time & instead I would recommend just sitting down and giving it your full attention (seriously, all of it) and give yourself over to the experience of the movie. Vibe and flow with the psychedelic tones and try to be with the movie instead of thinking about it and trying to figure it out. View it as an art piece that you need to finish to then begin to process the implications and meanings of. It’s a psychedelic science fiction horror film and it nails all aspects of those things. I think fans of Annihilation & Mandy would enjoy this very much.
Fascinating and bold in terms of color, music, editing style, metaphor, and story. It was stylized in a way that didn’t feel pretentious but instead felt natural and complementary. The actors did fantastic jobs, especially the two leads (Colin & Tas) who really seem to connect and had a believable chemistry which was crucial in making the premise work and make you feel your grasp on the movie’s reality was fracturing, too. It became a little too heavy handed at times or lost confidence in the audience and our ability to follow what was happening to Tas, but ultimately generally trusted us to come along on the journey and all would be revealed.
It’s difficult to rate this because I consider it a full experience that stimulated my brain in more ways than most movies. It kept my focus and attention and made me feel like I was disassociating along with it at times. It’s the kind of movie that swallows you but somehow you’re left to digest it. Very enchanting and fascinating and stimulating. Definitely not a movie that all people will love but it’d be unfair not to give this a chance with an open mind before deciding it’s not for you.
Anyway, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. I cannot imagine what it would be like if it hadn’t been the uncut version so definitely don’t bother to watch it unless it’s the uncut version.

I love a director who isn’t afraid to hang the ending &/or a lot of the meaning of a movie off of a word or phrase casually mentioned much earlier in the film.
