Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Eh I'm not sure—it takes a long time before anything of interest actually happens, and it's mostly just a hollow emotional pit filled to the brim with senseless plot points and people who provide little more than their names. Having said that, I found myself liking every appearance of Beetlejuice himself. I was expecting Keaton to give one of the most phoned-in performances of the year, but I ended up relishing his stupidly silly nature back on film. Admittedly, I enjoyed parts of the candidly bizarre practical work in the afterlife (shoutout Bob); yet, I would have preferred to be there more honestly, as nothing else worked for me. The mother/daughter dynamic would've benefitted greatly from removing the fucking crazy quantity of fat in this—why were Dafoe and Belluci even there?—and I've never in my life wished for less Dafoe until now.
