That was fun. The X-Men characters and their adjacents have always been my preferred corner of the Marvel Universe. Wolverine is pretty easily my favorite Marvel character and Hugh Jackman will always be legendary as him. Logan gave him such a beautiful farewell, so the biggest fear was always that this would undo that. And I mean, Deadpool literally desecrates Wolverine's remains. But I think it works, if you are going to bring back Wolverine despite Logan, I think this does about the best job at that. Having Deadpool make fun of the situation itself kinda helps.
Visually this is incredibly bland, par for the course with all these superhero movies. Shawn Levy doesn't really bring anything as a director, this is pretty indistinguishable from any of the other directors of these cape movies. Just like the other two Deadpool movies this is pretty light on the narrative and pretty well contained, even with the multiverse hopping. The story is nothing special and its filled with some pretty awful plot devices. All the TVA stuff is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo used as an excuse for multiverse stuff. The time ripper thing is lame and all the villains really suck. Sure, Deadpool makes fun of some of that, which helps it not feel like as generic and uninteresting, but it's still not a satisfying narrative at all. It's just used as an excuse to have Deadpool and Wolverine fight and hang out, and also flash a few cool cameos.
The action here is pretty fun, but nothing crazy. Some of the special effects are a little questionable. Some of the humor lands, but I quickly get sick of Deadpool's humor and antics. Saying something sexual and the f-word 40 times in a row isn't funny, especially after the 80th time, it really just gets tiring. But some of the jokes are funny, and Deadpool can be funny when he actually tells jokes. Wolverine is the real star of the show for me, Hugh is just so effortlessly perfect in the role. Some of the best stuff in the movie explore this alternate Wolverine's struggles and failings. Honestly some pretty compelling and touching moments with Logan here.
Overall this is one of the more fun superhero movies I've seen, but falls into a lot of the same pitfalls as many of the others. I enjoyed myself and I think this is easily going to be the most rewatchable of the 3 Deadpool movies.
