The Seed of the Sacred Fig 2024
It was a bold choice for the last 15 minutes to turn into domestic abuse Benny Hill.
I mean, NDA.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl 2024
Jackie Chan's Hong Kong films from the 70s are magic. They really, really are. We now live in a world where the twin tricks of CGI and editing can will anything into existence, but counterintuitively this has undercut the magic of an action film. No one is impressed by the action scenes in Marvel films anymore because you know it's artificial. People love John Wick and Mission: Impossible films seemingly for the allure of practical stunts, but even those films…

No Other Land 2024
The IDF is a terrorist organization, and this is an essential document of their cruelty.
It also confronts those of us who live far away, see horrific images like this, feel sad and angry and frustrated, then return to our lives, not thinking about it again until we see the next horrific image on our feeds.
I don't know what to do with that anger, that frustration, that sadness.

Union 2024
#-Z Challenge (2024)
Letter: UThis film has some of the best intentions in the world, but fails in the execution of being a well crafted documentary film. There is terminology used that’s never explained and there are references to events and reasons that workers at Amazon should unionize yet they aren’t told. It’s just not good filmmaking and doesn’t add much to the story of the Amazon Labor Union (ALU).
It’s no surprise to me at all to know…

The Girl with the Needle 2024
Quite possibly the darkest and most bleak way I could have started off TIFF. Absolutely stunning in its cinematography, but definitely not a feel good story. Sound design and story had it feeling like a horror in moments. Feels like something GDT would appreciate in the way they portray outward “monsters” vs inward monsters.

Megalopolis 2024
4 stars but also 1 star and some parts just beyond rating.
A beautiful underedited mess. Loved the first hour, spent a bunch of time in the middle wanting to know how much was left. The ending was a complete disappointment.
A guy at our screening left with like 45 minutes to go, and on one hand, good for him, but he also definitely lost out on something?

A Quiet Place: Day One 2024
If A Quiet Place wasn't already a movie, this would be a 4/5. But it is, so this isn't.

How Can I Help You 2023
Thomasin McKenzie is great in this, she could tell the whole story with just her facial expressions alone.
