saw this w C on a thursday afternoon while on leave

i’d skimmed through the rest of the daniel craig run on tuesday in preparation for this (even quantum, which i feel like has actually aged well), and man oh man this hit me like a punch in the gut

the first bond film i can remember seeing was goldfinger (w my dad and his dad), but the first one i remember seeing and Understanding — for its significance in the zeitgeist — was casino royale. i saw it in blr with like 15 other members of my extended family; we sat in the equivalent of gold class and paid a fraction of the price; i sat next to an uncle (technically a first cousin once removed) who — unlike me — actually understood the poker.

i have thoughts about the writing (PWB’s influence rly comes through/ why was there no time in the 2 hours 43 minutes for more exposition about safin) and the performances (has rami malek always been this Lame) but rly all i can think about now — w casino royale in mind — is how wide a range this Bond has had, how much has happened to him/ the people he cares about in the time that he’s had, and how much more he has become than just a misogynist in a tux. w the baggage that daniel craig’s had coming into this last outing/ with everything it’s taken to make this, rly what an end to an incredible run. the first thing i thought about at the end was M quoting ulysses — 9 years and 2 films ago now but rly the most apt note to go out on 🥲
