With the year now ending, I realised I hadn't found my 5 star movie of the year yet (I have to rewatch a film before I'm allowed to give it 5 stars). I was torn between choosing this and Decision to Leave, but decided to go for EEAAO just for the uniqueness of its premise and its relevance to my own life, encapsulating my personal journey this year fairly perfectly. Goodness did it take the cinephile world by storm earlier this year, and when I watched it at the time I was fully on board the hype train. But it's this rewatch that has solidified my verdict for this being a quintessential film of our times, as there's no doubt this will go down in history as a cornerstone of cinema. A film that gets even more emotional on rewatches, I can certainly see this becoming a yearly tradition.
