here are some random things i have to say about this movie that i don't really know how to cohere into a formal statement:
1.) this is the first film i have ever made!!!!!!! this is a pretty low/simple bar to start with, i think, but it's definitely still exciting (and honestly a little weird/surreal) to have made something that i can put my name on!

yes, it’s hotter, it’s muggier, and, yes, you’re going crazy—are you disturbed? malcolm x might just barely be my favorite lee film over this, but this is absolutely one of the few films where if you somehow don’t like it i genuinely think you are just a fucking idiot. of course one of the most gripping, scorching films about race ever made, but also frequently one of the funniest and most beautiful glimpses into a community…
“it was like seeing my own creation come to life.”
tell me i’m not your kind. an absolute knockout—knew little to nothing going into this and was not only quite shocked by how dark and twisted and almost cruel the core premise is here but even more delightfully surprised at how consistently this further contorts itself into newer and weirder tones. that its almost comical and lunatic progression never once feels unnatural is a huge testament too to the brilliance and confidence of stan, reinsve, and pearson’s performances and dynamic and schimberg’s direction and script.

definitely generic and maybe even a little disjointed in some of its narrative beats/sequencing, but just so sweet, superbly voice acted, and unbelievably visually exquisite. if i still played overwatch i’d absolutely buy an orisa skin of roz.

“where is all this coming from?”
the kind of work that i imagine (hell, hope) any young and aspiring filmmaker with any level of humbleness and/or self respect would be terrified of making—not only uninspired and vapid as an almost ai-generated, watered down clusterfuck of at the very least 20 movies that i’d rather be watching all overlayed at once than another second of this bullshit, a film with less than nothing of interest or value to say about life…
