I thought that making this list would be easy this year, feeling that I hadn't seen too many truly fantastic movies in 2023. It turns out that I have actually seen plenty of great ones, so, once again, I had real trouble narrowing it down to 20 entries.

To make things a tiny bit more easy for me, I set myself a couple of rules. The first one is: no shorts (sorry, Alicia & My House Walk-through) and the second one is: only one movie per director (sorry, Alex van Warmerdam & Norifumi Suzuki).

Excluding certain movies from the list was very painful, even more so than previous years.
