31 Days of Horror | 2020 (23/31)
Well, would you look at that. This was my first ever viewing of this movie. When it comes to The Sixth Sense, a lot of people talk about the big twist at the end, and while it is effective and really helps this film come around full circle, this is actually one of the best screenplays I think I've ever come upon. The storytelling in here is insanely good.
I came close to actually crying a few times in here whenever Haley Joel Osment would give his dialogue, such a terrific job by an actor we don't see much of these days. I also wouldn't consider myself a huge Bruce Willis fan, but he did very good as well, as did Toni Collette.
I'll be thinking about this screenplay for a while, it just doesn't get much better in terms of crafting a solid script. The pairing of the actors along with the writing is impeccable, and I have to give credit to the CD, Avy Kaufman. Of course, Shyamalan wrote this -- one of the world's biggest mysteries is why he hasn't made a film that could come close to the amount of craft that went into some of his first films, The Sixth Sense included. I mean, I might forgive him a tiny bit for The Last Airbender after this film, but man.. I'd really like to see some redemption from the guy. He clearly has the talent and the passion for it, he just needs to figure it out.
This is probably my favorite film I've seen this month, and it will be difficult to beat. Of course I'd recommend it, but I'm probably the only person left that needed to see it! Seriously though, I didn't think this movie would be as good as it was, and I'm happy whenever my lower expectations are left in shambles.
