This is actually good! What a pleasant surprise for a Disney live-action remake!
Halle Bailey is great. The narrative changes are minor and some (the study scene and the market, for example) are really lovely. The colourful scenes are gorgeous (this Under the Sea is so much better than the dour, creepy Be Our Guest in the Beauty and the Beast remake) but, as the trailer suggested, there's a bad case of flat, monotone DC-style visuals in some other scenes. Prince Eric is also flat as anything, but that's in keeping with the original. The weird design of Flounder is oddly endearing.
Song-wise, there are three new additions and a new refrain. Eric's solo is really bad and jarringly autotuned. Scuttlebutt is fantastic and is going straight on one of my playlists.
