How on earth do you not give Ralph Fiennes all the awards after this performance I have no idea.

I’ve liked all of Wes’ films post this one but the nested structure of his stories reached a point of perfection here that I think he hasn’t bettered yet. Fantastic Mr. Fox remains my favourite Wes but this will always be a close second.

Giamatti is so good, throughout of course, but especially in the final five minutes.

Madsen's wine monologue was so beautifully delivered.

Payne's slow dissolves are just chef's kiss.

Of the two Shimizu movies I’ve watched, between this and Mr. Thank You, it’s lovely to see his priorities lie is bringing the community to the forefront. However, while that worked to the story’s benefit in the latter movie, I feel it hampers slightly what this movie is going for. I won’t deny that the ending is sad, but it could’ve been devastating if Shimizu had spent a little more time on fleshing out both Emi and, especially, Nanmura’s characters.

Petzold probably never worked with Hoss again after this because he thought “how could she, or rather, anyone top that?”

Laughed when they had to say the word Binghamton 4 times in 15 seconds. Great choice of town.

Once I finished watching this, I only felt like I wanted to watch a better post-Holocaust movie, so I’m now rewatching Phoenix.

It’s a miracle this almost 3-hour film is just mostly two people talking to each other but feels absolutely effortless and short despite that. Granted, nostalgia and old houses are a favourite theme/plot element of mine. But the breezy prologue + three-act structure of the script coupled with Arvind Swamy and Karthi being naturals in their roles and sharing such an immediate camaraderie made me, instead, want to spend more time in this world. Easily the most…

Genuinely bemused that this film exists. Dibakar’s portrayal of the Indian online and television scene is actually not that distant from what reality is like; his version here is just a slightly heightened version of it all. Apropos recent discussions as to what constitutes an Indian film, Dibakar is working in so many registers and modes and tones here, it’s mind-boggling. He manages a meld of styles so obviously Indian in nature about an India that is caught in the…

Good misdirections but it tries to tie up stuff too quickly once the reveal is done and I feel like that needed a little more time and focus, not just towards the end but also at the cost of toning the misdirections down a bit.

Anyway, glad to finally watch a Nazriya movie, actress from my favourite gif (search Nazriya impressed, it’s the one with the blue background).

I want to say this is a decent attempt but Oppenheimer's jump to fiction isn't successful. There is a certain amount of nervousness and distance between the characters that is inbuilt to the premise but the film is filled with air that sucks out any sort of friction or tempo to proceedings.

At one point, it does feel like Oppenheimer is going for the same (fertile) ground that he has already covered in The Act of Killing but for me…

This being a prequel and releasing once Pixar’s stocks had begun to fall did it slight harm in how folks judged it. As prequels go, they’re rarely better. And yea, that Newman theme does go hard.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I absolutely cannot believe that this film is based on a true incident from Selvaraj's own life. To live with survivor's guilt and then pour it out years later in such form must have been akin to therapy.
