You are damn sure I turned the dubs off and listened to the original just so I could hear Connor’s infamous accent in all its glory.
Look, I can understand why a lot of people are hating this movie. It’s not precisely a good film, nor is it on the same level of wonderful camp as the original. Jake may not have Patrick’s swag or charm, but then again, who does? The man was special. Conor is in no way a good actor, and his delivery can be very grating. Awesome scenes like the one near the lake or whatever in the original are quick and anticlimactic. And Billy is not precisely the most menacing folk. So, it does have its flaws.
But, to be honest, despite all of this, I had a great time. I was ready to file a lawsuit against Ireland based on what I heard from everyone's complaints regarding McGregor, but I had fun with him, his stupid accent, and that entry. Also, unsurprisingly, he delivered on the fighting, which I also heard was poorly shot, but I wasn’t bothered and found it okay. Some of the camerawork and direction at times reminded me of American Made, which I liked. The cinematography also wasn’t as terrible. The writing wasn’t the best, but I had a dumb grin and laughed a few times, like Billy learning how to fly by the end. Jake was great on his version of Dalton, he had a nice cool, but you can also see the unhinged boiling inside him. He could have been more unhinged, sure.
All in all, despite its many shortcomings and never living to the original nor the Family Guy episode, I found this to be really amusing watch from beginning to end.
