The Killing of a Sacred Deer

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

“Everyone eats spaghetti the exact same way. Exact same way. Exact same way…”

An internal affair of mythical proportion. Lanthimos’ uncanny and jarring style of dialogue, is inherently uncomfortable and structured. It’s unemotional and painfully truthful characteristics open up a space for expression to unfold if the broader strokes of the film. The city is almost utopian by appearance, no waste, cleanly, even the neighborhood described as ‘not as nice’ is perfectly pleasant. Much like the conversation.

Death, and the sanctity of life has seemingly been lost, and the world itself that this ‘psychosomatic’  story exists within, confronts the hyper emotional human pain of dealing with guilt, regret, and the weight of both time and death. When we lose morality and the natural, does apart of us die? Underneath the skin of human decency, there’s a beating, gory, complex, system of darkness and looming anxiety.
