Vertigo

Vertigo

One of my all-time favorites, seen for the first time on 35 mm. The thing that stuck out the most on this viewing, was how perfect San Francisco is as the setting of a Hitchcock film. He had long used stairs as a metaphor for a descent into madness. The narrow, steep streets seem custom built for his purposes. As John Ferguson winds his way through the alleyways, he seems to be circling in towards the mania that will inevitably engulf him.
